Best Behaving Mono

Recommended Posts

So I have been using Gamma line for years and tried to buy as much as I could before it was completely off the shelves. However I have finally work through my remaining stash and have to move on to a new brand. Does anyone have any suggestions for a line similar to Gamma? I really hate when my line starts twisting up, curling and kinking. I found Gamma line prevented most of this for me. I do like the strength of the polymars, but I am not going to overlook anything out there. I use a lot of 6# and 8# test.

For some reason, I have had a lot of luck with Stren Magnathin. I generally have a couple rods spooled up with it in 6lb - 8lb for a variety of applications

I like Suffix Elite.. It seems to handle really well. It is one of the only sinking mono's so for jig fishing and pulling lindy rigs/ spinners I like it. Other wise some sort of berkley mono.. I have gone to more braids though.

Trilene XL 6# is my open water jigging line. I tried braids, fluorocarbon, copolys. I still liked the old Trilene XL the most.

I did try Suffix mono for ice fishing and I liked that. I might give it a shot this spring. I'll still be keeping a spool of the old stuff around, just in case wink

I use cajun red in 4lb-6lb test and have had great luck with it the reason I went to it a friend told me about how it doesnt twist up so I gave it a try and that was 5-6 years ago I still use it today.

I havent used it in 8lb test yet but the 4-6 are really strong and it just doest seem to have the twist problem that I've had with other monos.

GAMMA is still sold off Cabela's wesite.

I just spooled up 6 spinning rods with 6# hi-vis gold yesterday. I also use 6# blue GAMMA on all my quick-change/extra spools on my Shimano's. ...This makes it easy to switch from river/dirty water fishing to clear water/lake fishing. I too love the GAMMA mono and would not use another brand unless I completely ran out.

Jim- They are working on getting it in stores again that previously carried it as well as new stores. If there is anything that I can do to help set up a new dealer or help an older dealer carry the line again, I can make that happen. You will see gamma grow a lot this year. They are doing a lot of fishing shows as well as the Bassmaster classic, forrest wood cup and icast in orlando this year. Gamma is back and better than ever. My number is 203-910-3676 if anyone needs help regarding the line.

I am Pline fan. I used Trilene xl for years, and always loved it. But since trying the co-polymers. I have used Triple Fish, Gamma, and Pline and all three I have had better luck with recently. But my new favorite is Pline. Just seems to have less memory and very good Abrasion resistance. Compared to Trilene. For my walleye rigging rods. 6lb Pline is hard to beat.
