If you were to upgrade your portable which one would you snap up? My buddy picked up an Otter Pro Thermal Cabin. This is the nicest portable I have ever seen. It has the best tub on it hands down and the frame is definately built to last forever as well. The squuare tubing looks very durable. The swivel seats in this house are very comfy and maybe frabills seats are the only thing close. The full thermal canvas is awesome to say the least. This would be my next portable for sure without a doubt! Or the same style just the next size up for having my family out. I know they are a heavier house but the hyfax kits help with that when dragging them. I don't use a pickup so loading and unloading would be easily done onto my trailer. This house is a 10 out of 10 and second to none in my book.

I work for a retailer that sells Frabills, Clams, and Otter flip over shacks. All of them make a good product, and, if you take care of your shack, should last many years. Having said that, in my opinion, the Otter is the best one on the market. You will pay a few dollars more, but they are the best built.

Clam has a nice feature on some of theirs where it flips over both directions...that is very nice and makes that model (the Denali, I think) one of the roomiest two-person flip overs on the market.

I would be looking at the Clam Denali or one of the Otters as my top choices.

I just bought a new Canvas Craft two weeks ago. I looked at the Otters and liked them but wanted a double flip. I got a magnum double flip with the Norpac insulation. I liked the otter seats with the rail system so I put that on my Otter tub. This is a great two man house with all kinds of space. I'm 6'8 and pushing three bills so fishing side by side is a little crowded in any portable.

For me, the Canvas Craft has the thickest insulation quality on the market today. They have a tub as good as Otters so I do not know how anything could be better. I believe it still may be an Otter tub on the CC portables. The poles slide as well as any pole can.

I put the Otter rail system and swivel and slide seat in this CC unit so I feel I have the best of the options out there.

Put a set of hyfax on the tub with a cover and hitch and you would ne set to go.

It may come down to what one wants to spend for the difference in quality. Many options out there today.

I like a tent made out of real canvas, better breathability (is that a word??) I have been in a few newer ones with the 300 or 600 fabric and it seems to drip all the time. I don't really worry about the insulation factor yet because I am pretty comfortable with the door open and the heater/cooker on low, but I dress for it.

How is the space in the Otter Pro Cabin? Can 2 people fish very comfortably? Also, If I need to pull the shelter out 300-400 yards, is it fairly easy to pull?

My buddy said it pulls better then his one man Clam Kenai and is selling his one man... He has the hyfax on his otter said it makes a big difference. Said the otter is nice and roomy for 2 guys.

Hands down, the Canvas Craft is the bested insulated portable fish house on the market. Thicker insulation, firerated for saftey & made in the USA. If you are looking for a roomy two man look into the Northlander single flip Magnum with the Norpac material. Thats the one I use alone or with a bud. I can fish with a bud & my kid in it. Great house!!!

I've posted this before but the canvas craft pole system scares me. Everyone says they don't bind but I have seen so many of the old clam, frabill, eskimo brands bind with the conduit style poles. How are the poles different on a canvas craft that they don't bind? Will be purchasing a cc or otter full thermal next fall.

I believe there is a bit more space between the poles so they do not bind.

I have had mine for either 4 or 5 years and it has been used alot.

I would not recommend this, but I have at times gotten lazy and when it was time to move to another spot say 50-100 yards away, I have just started the wheeler and towed the portable set up to the next spot. I have never bent one pole doing this with my Canvas Craft with the round poles and I about destroyed 4 poles in my Otter doing this.

The CC pole system is great and the last thing I would be afraid of breaking or having issues with is the CC poles. This is as honest as I can be about thier poles.

Again, I would not suggest to tow the portable set up as from time to time the front poles will hit a snow drift and it bounces around and probably more than it should.

If I honestly had to make a suggestion to Canvas craft on how to make the poles better, I could not come up with one idea for them as I have had ZERO issues. I would tell them unless they have something really new and innovative to just leave them as they are.

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
