Very observant observation... You are correct. I have two rods rigged with Crystal and one rigged with Fireline Tracer braid, which I like best.. I have been thru 2 1/2 spools of Tracer since Christmas, as casting thru frozen guides takes a toll on it quickly. The other thing, is its so cold out, that I dont take time to sort out a rats nest when it occurs, I just strip it off and tie on new. The crystal works best in freezing conditions even if it is stiffer than the braid.

It's official. Today is the day I can't take it any longer.

Seriously, anyone know somewhere near the metro I can take a 9'9wt fly rod w/floating line and catch some fish (without cutting holes in the ice and ice fishing with a fly rod, lol)?

I was going to suggest trout fishing, catch and release south of Rochester, but a 9W is a little big. The mississippi is your best bet. The problem is if anything is shallow enough

OK, REDDOG I am confused... where are you getting all the open water??

Redwing? what is Sand dad???

Dont need to know any curtain spots, just curious, if it is the Mississippi near Redwing, or if you are out of MN all together.

Thanks

Interesting... so one could head West to find open water... do not need to go south.

Does the Missouri River stay open all year long? Walleye must still be open out there I take it.

Still curious to know if that is for sure the place.

For the most part it stays open below the dams etc, but further north it usually frozen but with the mild weather its been open almost everywhere now.

So your saying from Pierre south... out of Lake Oahe. We fished there a while ago. like 8 years ago, we did the ole' circle the turbines, and try to catch salmon. Ended up with a few and then chased some eyes' it was a fun trip, but have never been back since.

Has anyone been out open water fishing close to redwing or on lake pepin ? I'm to find a good shore fishing place. Pool 4 interests me since walleyes are continuous and the crappies are decent. Any suggestions ?
