This reminded me of a funny story I thought I'd share. A cople years ago we had a pretty big group of friends out on Big Marine tip up fishing there were at least a dozen tip ups out. We were grilling and throwing a football around when out of nowhere this suburban comes by doing mach 1 pretty close to us. The guy ran over one of my friends new beaver dam tip ups eek .. My buddy was mad enough to chase this guy down and make him pay for a new one!! When he asked the guy why he was in such a hurry he said he was a Realtor and was late for an appointment, he was just using the lake as a short cut, and didn't see any tip ups as he was driving by us. UNBELIEVABLE!!

couple years ago, I saw a minivan going about 40 MPH on a flat. A few seconds later I hear a loud BOOM. When I looked up, I saw the van spin 180*. I saw the guy get out and get to his knees looking at his van.

I walked up to see if everything was okay. As it turns out, he hit a 10 inch hole and tore his boot and axle. His wheel was held on by a miracle and a prayer.

still not sure how he got his van off the ice.

Some one without critical thinking skills was pulling tubers behind his jeep going about 40-50mph this weekend on lake julia. Weaving in and out of fishhouses. Hope someone called it in.

Yeah, they're rocking out on Mille Lacs, too. Amazing how fast some people will drive...I suspect some of them are probably drunk (especially the guys whipping donuts down the road). I did see a car on its roof one year because it hit the side of the road while the guy was trying to do donuts. At least that's the story he told.

A lot of people are just plain ignorant of problems and safety concerns of driving fast on the lake. On my trip to appledorns i had to explain this to 6 of the 13 people along. Prior, they would drive as fast as they wanted with no understanding of why they should go slow.

The good thing about Mille Lacs is that the resort owners are usually out and about. They catch you doing this you will get a stern warning. You get caught again, you get escorted off the ice and asked not to return. They have a very low tolerance for these people up there. It's a very good practice if you ask me.

I'll admit that ripping across the lake is pretty dumb and i'll also admit that i've cut my share of doughnuts on the lake too. meh, sue me.

i'm not sure what sort of license resort owners have to escort people off the lake. If you don't have a badge, i'm likely gonna laugh in your face if you tell me to get off a public lake, whether i'm acting like an [PoorWordUsage] or not. Go get the sheriff.

Good luck getting off the ice when you have to cross their land to get off the ice. When you pay to use their access you have to obey their rules. I respect all their hard work involved in the roads and will obey their rules.

Go ahead and be a tough guy and see how far that gets you up there. whistle

My point is "their" rules stop at the shoreline. I respect their hard work involved in the roads too, but sorry, if you make a road on a public lake don't expect it to get treated like private property.

It's called ethics. If you want to drive like a richard have at it. There are no laws against it and you are correct. I guess I was brought up to respect others hard work. I also am smart enough to know what increased speed does to the integrity of the ice. I can't say every resort is like this but most have speed limit signs as you enter the ice. If you are traveling over the posted speed you will be asked to slow down. And yes, I know, the speed limit signs are not enforced by the law.

You want to speed around out there then have at it. I am sure the resort owners won't be the only ones calling you a richard.

That's about all I have to say on this subject. I am headed up to Mille Lacs to go fishing in the morning. Wanna come Bobby? smile

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
