attaching reels to poles

I have a couple of rods that do not have any way to attach the reels to them. I have tried electrial tape but it seems to have too much stretch to it. thought about shrink tubing but have not see any bigger than 1 inch. would need 1 1/4 - 1 1/2. what does everyone else use, there was disscussion on this before, but i could not find the thread.

thanks

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of ice rods have electrical tape holding the reels on.

I use silicone self sealing tape - sold in electrical departments of hardware stores. It only sticks to itself, requires about an 8" strip to affix a reel firmly to any rod. Frabill has a ice fishing specific silicone tape available too.

I have used the tape trick, and it works good because you can tighten it down. I have also used electrical zip ties. zips it down tight and two easy snips and they reel is free with out leaving behind the sticky tape left overs.

ALL-IN

Most of the rods I purchased in the past have little holders on them, which work great for a bit, but then it seems they stretch and don't hold as well. Now onto the actual question.

Now that I've seen the dark side of those little rings... it's electrical tape all the way. cable ties would work, although I probably wouldn't use em as they're a bit bulky for my taste. They'd hold the reel in place though, no question about that!

Duct Tape .. Use Your Thumb As A Press When Turning/ Spinning It Around Reel Base Etc .. I Make My Own Ice Fishing Poles At Times .. I Use Duct Tape / Electrician Tape Around The Eyelets .. Lil Super Glue ..Also You Can Use The Plastic Zip Straps Around The Reel .. Just Like You see Them On The Racks..

For whatever reason, the higher quality rods seem to have no reel seat, and I can see why people prefer that with flexibility of placement and to cut down on weight. But my preference is a nice light weight reel seat such as on the St Croix Legends or the new Fenwick rods.

I use a self vulcanizing tape. There is no adhesive, it just sticks to itself. I think it is called Monkey or Gorilla tape. It is in the electrical department of the major box stores. I like it because there is no sticky residue.

I like the shrink wrap and then use the electrical tape to tighten things down... I never have the electrical tape touching any part of the cork... I only wrap around the shrink wrap.. that way when I have to take the reel off.. there is no pull off on the cork or any sticky residue left behind by the tape.

You can get many various sizes of shrink wrap for very cheap at the welding shops..

They will shrink your handle and eventually the handle will fall off. smile

Do the bands deform the cork over time? I raise a few sheep and have some green bands, tried it but they felt too tight so I took them off.
