I thought you might like to see our own Matt Johnson and Lonnie from Thorne Bros talk about their new trip wire rod.

It certainly looks like it could be a winner. Check out the video below and let us know what you think please:

Lots of people thought i was nuts for often using metal "springs" on my jigging set ups. The light action it gives your bait when the fish are finicky is unbelievable; not to mention strike sensing. Just ordered two, will take a few weeks, so better get on the list!!!!

first, i thought i was the only one in the world that would miss a bite on a spring bobber rod, glad to see thats not the case

all i have to say is if the tips are more durable than JM (somehow ive broken 2) could be a winner, only feedback is would be nice to see that wire colored like orange or something so much easier to see on cloudy days or when eyes get tired from out in sun all day, so ive spray painted mine

Matt or Lonnie--What ice cleats do you guys have on? Looking for a set that fits over the bunny boots that dont fall off. Those look like that stay on pretty well.

Thanks

Those are Kahtoola MICROspikes. I have a set on my bunny boots and they do not come off. Only downside is that they $60. I was lucky and found them on sale in the summer for $30. BTW - they are the best pair of spikes I've owned.

they should have tried replicating the St. Croix style bobber. I made my own design of them not exactly the same but the same concept and they work amazingly well, only thing I got out of this was the wire dosnt kink or bend and able to be bent into a shape which is a great idea but its still the same as the typical spring bobbers thaught I was going to see a new kinda of design maybe they will come out with a new design with the same material that would be cool

I think the other big thing they were going for is that it won't ice up when used outdoors in cold conditions.

The problem with it is that you can buy a ST Croix Legend Elite bobber rod for $20 less and the bobber is removable, which is nice for transport and replacement. The bobbers look very similar between the two.

It's a bobber rod, you don't need it to be super light or super sensitive since it's a visual detection not a feel thing. I love TB rods and I've got a few, but I don't think I would buy one of these since you can get the same performance for less.

The St. Croix spring design are also adjustable and the springs can be interchanged for different bait size, which is nice. I did notice they stopped using fuji reel seats and now have much cheaper reel seats on the legends. And the blanks are brittle, so it's not a win win situation by any means. Thorne blanks are very durable from my experience.

I love the straight wire without any spring coils. I can't tell you how many times I've had my line wrapper around the little spring coils and it is almost impossible to get off without cutting and re-tieing. If you are on a hot bite or prime time, that can be a major drag.

St Croix has the coils on their springs and I know them well. Been my go to spring bobber. Still hate getting my line caught in those coils. Feeling lucky always comes to mind when trying to pull the line out from in between the coils.

I guess I will find out soon enough about the Tripwire. I will post a pic of it here and possibly a video of it if I can get Matt to go out fishing with me grin

I will let you know... smile

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
