I picked up a revo winch 60. Now I want a rod to put it on. What size would you guys recamend for 12" bull dawgs and double 10. Thinking of a 9' rod 2-10 oz. Never had a 9' rod. Is there an advantage with the 9' compared to an 8' ? Thanke for the help.

Advantage is longer casts and easier 8's. Disadvantages would be with jerk-bait motions you may slap the water or get too long of a pull. An 8 foot rod will also fir in more rod lockers than a 9 footer would. Just some things to consider.

Every year my rods get longer and every year the fishing gets easier. longer casts, easier figure eights,longer wider figure eights better leverage on the fish, better hooksets at a distance, easier to control the fish on a short leash. I would look into the tackle industries or Okuma telescopic rods. I own both brands and have been very happy with them. Not as lite as a st croix but very dependable.

Ditto on the Tackle Industries 9 ft telescoping rod. Every long rod I've ever had has been a pain in the neck even in an 18 ft boat but this one goes everywhere with me and I use it constantly.

bought a 9' T.I. rod last year and i love it. the only reason i would use a shorter rod (8' or less) is for working suicks or phantoms. DCG's on my 8'6" fenwick elite. mag dogs and pounders on my 9' T.I.

I run everything except a few select baits on a 9' TI rod, I have 3 rigged in either XH or XXH for specific duties. For thos few select baits I use a Loomis 8'3"... Most are topped with Revo Toro 60's in either HS or 5.3 and a Calcutta and Curado... Still haven't found a real want or need for a winch, just to slow for me to keep up with a charging fish, seen to many lost fish on that reel....

I love my 9' Okuma, rod blank telescopes into the handle so it fits in my car nicely, but is still a long rod with the 1-piece blank advantages.

Same rods I cast with what little I troll, maybe 5 hours a year tops... I'm not a troller....

I use a 9ft3in heavy Okuma with a shimano tekota. The action of the heavy is just about perfect. Could probably go just a tad softer but I dont troll enough to invest in "another" rod.

My bro got the 9ft split grip TI last year and I loved it. Going to get one of those this year. Very well balanced with a lighter feel.

Another vote for the T.I. 9 ft. rods! For what little trolling i've done they work ok. Plus he offers them with split handle, reg. and now a telescoping one as well, at a affordable price.

One vote to the contrary here... Depending on your casting style and how you hold the rod when you retrieve, 9' might not be ideal. I know for me personally, once I get to around 8' or slightly over, I start reaching the point of diminishing returns with rod length vs fatigue and effectiveness. When I cast and retrieve, I hold the rod by the foregrip and never let go if it. So as a right hand retrieve, I cast over my left shoulder. I also have my rear grips cut down to about 9 1/2". So a very long rod just doesn't work for me. Most of my rods are between 7'2 and 8'. I've tried 8'6" and 9' rods in the past, and just didn't like them.

trolling rods are a different story, but for casting, 8' or so is the max for me.

Convenience wise I own nothing over 8'. It's all about what you are comfortable with using and what you'll be using it for. I've only used 8' rods so I'm used to the way they feel. If it's broke don't fix it I guess.

Also having a 9' rod would just cause problems for me storing wise.

Tackle industries is comming out with a two piece 9' rod. How will it hold up to a one piece or a telescopic Modle? Will it be as strong? Any thoughts any one?

Untill it's release we won't know for sure, I can say the TI telescoping rods are great as are the one piece 9', I use them 99% of the time and a couple have been abused for at least 2 full seasons, one almost 3 now...I have a couple rods costing 3X what the TI costs and they get used only as backup's/loaners....

St Croix came out with a 8ft6in Mojo Musky rod this year. They only made them up to 8ft until this year. I ordered one yesterday. Going to use it for smaller bucktails, baby girls, showgirs, mepps with my curado. I am pretty excited. really nice looking rod but I dont know about the color combination, purple rod, green reel. HAHAH

I have the 8'6" Mojo and love the split handle and stiffness to the tip although one of us may be colorblind as I thought they were dark blue?

The bass rods are purple (although you can only tell in bright sunlight). I was fairly certain the muskie rods had the same finish.

Just got all of the new 2pc 9' rods ready to go. 2-4.5' long piece that fit together with a spigot joint. I have had a few guides using them in their boats since last fall. They come in MH, XH and XXH in either split or full grip. Same fat cork handles as my current 9' solid and telescopic rods. I hope to have my new 7'6" rods out for the 2013 shows. Also making a youth 6' musky rod too.
