Hand auger?

I am looking at the 6inch hand augers. Is the lazer that much better than the mora? What would you buy?

I have use the Mora and my Nils would put that away.

I cannot speak of the Lazer as I have not used one.

If this will be your only auger for the entire season, then the lazer would be much better than mora. If you just need something for early ice, then mora is fine.

Mora will work all season long, but the lazer will just cut faster and be less work.

I have a lazer 6'' and love it! Tears through the ice, bought the Jiffy hand auger tried it out and took it back, terrible to cut ice with that. I have had mine for nearly 5 years and just replaced the blades this year and to be honest 250 holes a season was common for me and many of those were late ice, well worth the extra over the mora. Although my mora does a great job digging post holes in the sand for me in the summer

Yep I forgot to mension this is only for early ice. I have a 8"lazer power auger for later in the year.

I have the 6 inch lazer, and my buddy has the 6 in mora. The lazer is much better than the mora.

I would also look at the Nils, HT has a new one out this year, and strike master has a new hand auger too.

They've come a long since the old blue mora (and the lazer for that matter too).

Lazer 6 inch is the way to go, had mine for 8 years ,will cut through a foot like nothing,

I have had a 7 inch mora for years. I have heard Lazers are better. Honestly the Nils make the best hand auger on the market period. And can be converted to a power auger easily. But they also cost more at around $130

4 or 5 years now with my 6" lazer with no troubles. I drill alot of holes and just now got a power auger. The lazer is not that pricy and will do what you need it to without trouble.

I have a Mora a Lazer and a Nils. The Nils is by far the fastest and easiest hand auger. Thing is once the ice gets to about 6" Im using the power head on the Nils. Its so light I probably use the power 99% of the season.

Lazer all the way. I have a 5" a 6" and an 8" since I do alot of hiking into remote water and I cannot bring my power auger because of weight. Nils are nice but sharpening blades can be a pain. I did not get one for this simple reason. Lazers are nice because you can pick up blades almost anywhere. Same as the moras. If you are only gonna cut 20 holes a year with it you might be happy with the mora. If you are gonna cut more do yourself a favor and go with the Lazer. I have a bunch of Mora's that I have picked up at rummage sales over the years. I Have never paid more than a couple bucks for them. On the other hand I have never seen a lazer on a garage sale. People hang on to these or sell them becasue there is a second hand market for them.

Nils are nice but sharpening blades can be a pain. I did not get one for this simple reason. Lazers are nice because you can pick up blades almost anywhere.

Send your Nils blades to Surface Tension and he will have them back very fast. If you get an extra blade for your Nils you will never be with out a sharp blade.

I put my Nils 8" against my buddies 5" Lazer, 3 holes 5-6" ice, Nils won easily....
