Peep site for TC Omega

Boar

Recommended Posts

Looking to put a peep site on my smoke pole, after gorgoeus 8 pointer laughed at me the other night as i tickled his back with a shockwave at 90 yrds. Any suggestions beside going to the range which i do. Any experience with them good or bad please. Later boar

I shoot an Omega. I have a Williams peep on it. Love it, Love it, Love it! Green fiber optic front is a necessity, as with low light, the red is impossible to see. One thing that will help in the low light, you can screw out the inner ring of the peep and make the opening larger. Of course, this gives you more margin for error too, so you have to be more disciplined about shot selection, but I couldn't hit anything with the old "buckhorn" style sights on a muzzle loader, now I have two and they both have peep sights on them. Any time I ever buy a new one, until scopes become legal, it will have a peep!

So go GREEN for best lowlight visibility? I was debating this last night with a friend. I was think neon green or blaze orange should stick out the best in low light.

Had red, hated it. I originally found that out on the fiber optics on my bow. I had a red pin and couldn't see it at all, changed it to green and it helped me a bunch. Muzzle loader was the same way. What I would really like to find is an actual yellow. On my bow anyway, that pin seems to work the best. But, for now, I have the bright green T/C front sight and I can see that until it is dark enough that you shouldn't be shooting anyway. I shot a doe here about a week ago that was right at the end of shooting light that I wouldn't have had a chance to shoot with a red one.

I put this one one. LOVE IT! If you dont have a peep in MN you're missing out BIGTIME!

I have a CVA Optima and had to get a low profile front pin.. The pin they have on them stock will NOT work. Went to gander and had it all set up. SHot my biggest buck to date a few weeks later at 80 yards, no prob.

I've got the same peep as above, Custom made the front sight, and painted it yellow...So it kinda sucks to hear you guys say that yellow works the best in low light. frown

The peep that Walleyechamp has in his post is a Williams. If you look at the piece with the knurled edge on it, that is the inner ring that I am talking about screwing out when it gets to be low light, kind of like boring out the peep on a bow to make your pins easier to see. And when I say yellow, I mean yellow fibre optics, not paint. I have a bright yellow fibre optic pin on my bow, it is the one that I pick up best. In the case of my muzzle loader, green was the next best substitute.

I actually just bored out the peep site aperature to the inner diameter of the threaded portion. Making the aperature slightly larger that stock, but just slightly smaller than the ghost site...The reason i did this was because when you screw out the peep aperature, the thin ring can be difficult to see. So now i've got the large ring, but a bigger aperature. I think i'll like it this weekend!

Having payed closer attention to the red, I see what u mean. Gonna swithc it to green or yellow also. That picture must be of a higher end modle huh? wats that one run? The one Ive seen an looked thru was similar but a one piece design. There can be two ringsan inner an outer?

Ok now having looked at the pictuere closer I see what u mean there also, U actually took the outer ring an boared it out a little larger, i can see what u mean with the gosht ring being thinner an harder to pick up in low light, good Idea, did u do that on a press?

I gave it to a buddy who works in a machine shop wink

I'm sure either a mill or drill press would work fine.

Worked well this weekeend as i filled my tag with a nice big doe - Not a scratch on any quarter, tenderloin, or backstrap and that doe was shot at 80yds...running! Perfect!

Here's a pic. I got bored in the wind sunday morning.

The small thin yellow post is about .050" wide and maybe .150" tall.

Just bought mine for my Omega just before season at a local sporting goods place for $40. The big "C" has them for the same price. Of course, that is just the peep, the green front sight is extra. I think I paid $20 for that.

Yep. The Picture that I posted above was about $55 for the whole set up and that was with a new end (green) pin.

And yes, Viking28 mentioned that the peep screws out for better quality in low light hours. It's so cool,,as it approaches that time I simply unscrew it and put it in my pocket. This is one of the best things I've ever purchased when it comes to outdoor sports.

I am a cheap bugger so I went with a square of electrical tape with a small hole punched in the middle of it and then shouldered the gun, sighted down the barrel and placed the tape with the hole in my line of sight on my glasses. It does block your vision a little while not aiming, I got used to it and it worked good.

Later,

Kenny
