Favorite panfish ice fishing lures

Well its getting to be that time of year, most of us are winding up our hunting seasons and are transitioning into ice fishing gear. I know what I will be doing this week, time to take inventory on the ice gear and probably add some new stuff. I like to get out on some of those small lakes that freeze up first and hit the sunnies and crappies. I know there are 1,000's of different styles, shapes and colors out there, but lets hear what a couple of your favorite sunfish/crappie crushers are.

I personaly have always loved the fat boys, the moon shape neon lure and the red glow genz bug tipped with 3-4 euro larvae.

For small spoons the perch frostee with the gold back and wax worms one on each hook chandelier style has always been deadly too.

I am also looking forward to trying the lindy toad and Lindy bug this year.

Lindy Toad - good bottom pounding design

Lindy Bug - nice fluttering design

Not at all. I've used the OutdoorProSeries Flutter Jigs for a couple years now without a tangle.

I can vouch that it's a very effective lure for Crappies, Perch and Sunfish. Even walleyes.

That Toad and Bug are going to be my go-to's this winter, but one i am really looking forward to experimenting with is the new micro-sizes in the slick jig. I think these will kill bluegills on the clear lakes i normally fish.

I have good luck with demon jigs in size #10, both glow and silver/yellow or chart. Also like the small diamond jigs and shrimpos, Nortland mudbugs and hexi-flys. I did pick up several of the Lindy toads and bugs this fall and will also be giving them a try.

A red flutter jig with a black dot on it made by Arnolds tackle, for Gills. (I should buy the flutter jigs that were previously posted as well!)

I still would take the Northland Tackle forage minnow in purple/silver/blue (backside glows) for Crappies any day on the ice.

i've got about 200 jigs in my box but i only use aboit 6 of em. i always have one rigged with a white diamond jig & another with a chart/grn frostee jigging spoon. about the only other lures i'll use are tiny hair jigs, pimples, & marmooshkas. oh, and a deadstick is always set up too

Gill pills, finkie,diamond.... all good. Really liking the tungsten heavy metal jigs. Most of northlands stuff as well. I can't say I stick to one, I like using lots of different actions and bait. jig-a whopper makes a jig called a hawg and I nail large gills on that last year tipped with a nuggie/euros

Well guys were getting close, some of you guys up north have already been out. One more questions for you guys, how many of you guys are truly into plastics for panfish?

I have always preferred the live bait euro/waxes etc.. when ice fishing for pannies. Due to the slower presentation ice fishing presents, clearer waters and letharigic nature of the fish in the winter I have been reluctant to switch.

However, I have seen first hand some nice panfish caught on the new lindy ice jigs and plan to add it to my bag of tricks more frequently. I like them because you get 4 different styles of tails in each pack and lots of color choices. I am not saying I am switching over to plastics totally for panfish as live bait IMO is hard to beat, but like most lures they will have their time and place.

I have to say...those Lindy micro-plastics for ice fishing are hard to beat Pat smile

They literally have the action of the real thing... even when you try to hold it still.

I picked up countless Northland Hexi Fly's and CJ&S Diamond Jigs last hardwater season. I love the wider profile that the Hexi Fly offers for picking up your jig on your flasher. I also love the Diamond Jigs because once you catch a fish, you can drop back down into the strike zone faster due to its weight. I also enjoy fishing the Ratso's, Gill Pill's, and I especially like the Northland Forage Minnow's and CJ&S Demon Jigs for deadsticking some pannies.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
