What kind of line will you be spooling up this year??

Two new lines I'm really excited to try this year are Trilene Micro Ice Solar and Berkley Nanofil on my panfish rods. It will be cool if Nanofil is that good so you can use a 3lb line in a diameter that is smaller than most 2lb lines diameters. Others lines have tried to report they have small diameter but in my testing none hold true in real life to the pound test. Hopefully, Nanofil will hold true this year!!

Has anyone tried running braided line with fluorocarbon leaders on their ice rods? I use this as my summer set up which is nice cause I can run the same line for up to three years before respooling. Just wonder how braid performs in cold water. I think it might stiffen up to much?

If your in your ice house and the temps are above freezing you will have no problem using braid. Outside on a cold day however, the braid soak up water and freeze, the result is you yanking line off of your spool because the braid will freeze together. frown

I will be using two different lines this season.. I like the lindy ice line, and the gamma ice line is back this season. Both of these are co-poly lines, on sight rods I like to use a high vis line. I like the suffix micro ice in orange.

Gamma ESP ice is back this year you say? That would be excellent news.

Any idea if Gander or Thorne Bros will be carrying it again?

Every couple years is my line replacement schedule. If it's still strong and holds knots well without coiling horribly, I see no reason to replace it.

I had one rod rigged with Suffix copolymer. I thought it was good line. I'll probably stop by TB and pick up some Gamma ESP. I liked that stuff too.

i've been using trilene micro ice in 3lb on the jig sticks and 4lb on deadsticks since it came out & i love it. doesn't coil much, good knot strength, doesn't bead water, good sensitivity & it's cheap. i always use a small swivel with about 18" of leader on jig sticks to prevent line twist & it adds a little extra weight to get those 1/80th oz hair jigs down a little quicker

Picked up some Gold Stren in 2lb, excited to use that on my finesse rod. I was sad to see TB didn't have any P-Line Flouroice, wanted some in the 3-4lb range. Also wanted to try the Gamma ESP but they only had 1lb, 1.5lb, and 8lb. So I'll be heading back around Thanksgiving hopefully and grabbing some of those lines!

What is the word on deadstick line. I have been using 6lb fireline on my jigging rods, and 6 to 8 pound on my bobber rods (for Walters). I have used Micro ice before for bobber/deatstick rods and thought it wasn't strong enough, would 6 to 8 pound work out for deadsticking? I am so used to using braid (fireline, powerpro) for open water it is hard to use/feel that mono during Ice fishing. Thoughts,

Thanks, not that far away from hard water can't wait.

I am going to run with the Lindy Ice Line again this year. I’m running and gunning ahead of the rental fleet daily in all conditions. Being Lindy Ice Line is true copolymer it sheds water and stays subtle even on those sub zero days when the wind is whipping across Upper Red.

2 lb. test Micro Ice on my pan-fshing reels with about thirty feet of 2 lb. test flourocarbon on the end. My understanding is memory is less of an issue with the newer flourocarbon lines, but I stick with the short leader to cut down on that problem anyway.

I use 4 lb test Micro ice and a 4 lb. test flourocarbon leader on the deadsticks I use for walleye and sauger. I just keep 6 lb. Trilene XL on my jigging reels, as those get used more during the summer, and with heavier spoons and Rapalas line stiffness and memory is less of an issue.

I will be using the Lindy Ice Line once again this year. I tried it out last year and was impressed. I fish outside allot running and gunning and need a line that does not absorb water and freeze up. The co-polymer line works well for this. I spool up 6 pound test for my walleye needs with fireline crystal for jigging those hardwater crankbaits like the Lindy darters.

I've tried many over the years.

Suffix Ice Magic

Northland Bionic Ice

Berkley trilene micro ice

Power Pro Ice

Berkley Fireline micro ice

Clam Ice Armour hi vis

HT Enterprises Ice Red

P-Line Floro ice

Stren Ice Hi vis gold

Cajun Red Ice

Seaguar abrazx ice

Berkley Vanish

All of them work fine. The P line was crazy though. I swear it is way underrated for the # test they tell you. Berkley Micro ice is my go to since it is reliable and abundant and cheap. I don't really care for the braid line and stay away from it. If I'm fishing in deaper then 20 foot I'll use it so the line streach doesn't screw me on bites. If I had to use one line and it was at the store when I went to by ice fishng line it would be P line.

I bought 2and 4 lb. Nanofill this year. Did some of my own testing ,and the stuff works great. On the directions it clames to use the 1 and 2 lb.test for icefishing. After I did my test I think that I should have bought the 1-lb. insted of the 4lb.The 1-lb is.0001 the 2 is.0002. This stuff is real fun to tie, because it is so fine. The real testing come when we drill the holes. Buy the way it is made in USA. Jerry

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
