662LB bear shot in Orr

Recommended Posts

Thats sad to me that they would put a picture like that on their article. Its a huge bear but geez... could of used a more tasteful picture.

Very true. Not to take away from the fact that it is a great animal, but pose it in a way that makes it look great.

Considering how huge it is (and the article said there were a couple other big ones from that area registered as well) I wonder if it's one of the bears that is fed every day at the bear sanctuary up there. I've never been there, so I don't know how often they feed them or anything, but especially considering that this part of MN is now classified as a severe drought area, I find it hard to believe a bear could maintain that much of a weight without being fed?

I thought they could have done better with the picture, or at least not posted it on the front page of the paper, where it was yesterday at least! I expect to see things like that when I go to the outdoors section but not on the front page.

How long does it take to process a bear? I've always wondered how people from far out of state manage that part of hunting, do they have to wait around for a few days to get everything processed (if they are taking the meat) or get the hide prepared? We mostly only ever hunted deer and small game and others took over all the dirty work and made sausage etc at home.

Those bears don't have facebook pages though. Won't be to much of an outcry. Maybe a little whimpering from the DNR. Unless Lily moved to Greenbush wink. Any story on the one from Greenbush Mutha? I haven't heard about it yet myself.

Know the person well, one of my students from last year. He and his Borthers own the land, had crops damaged, got a tag and took care of the problem.

I was called about it minutes after the recovery, knew before the DNR got called. We might be working on it at school this spring. Ill see if he'll post a pic on here of it.. NICE solid boar no welfare bear there...

MrKlean if that problem shows up Ill get ya in on it...

very huge....thought did it appear not to be field dressed in the photo? who or why would you not do that before dragging of lifting that hog out?

I went to the article then clicked on the picture so it enlarged. It appears to not be field dressed. In the picture you can clearly see that it is a fully intact male with all parts still there. The big belly and no blood on ground or on inside of legs also support that it has not been field dressed. I wonder how the meat will taste.

It looks like he used the Florida big fish approach to handling and displaying for pictures. Hang it up with rope/chain and fillet it out later.

Good night...that thing isn't huge, it's obese! Seriously, wonder what it's cholesterol level was. Good thing it was shot, as it probably would have died prematurely from heart disease. Nine inches of back fat?! There are Inuits in Alaska that shoot whales with thinner blubber than that...sheesh!
