MDAA 25th Anniversary

BOUNCED

Recommended Posts

He congratulated the MDAA for pushing the legislation on Cass and the slot lakes (that his own people testified against). That was in between all the standing ovations about spearing muskies that the Michigan dark house member was bringing up. "We should be like Michigan" was what several of the attendee's mentioned.

And people wonder why the muskie guys fight like we do...

You fight for your own self serving agendas.

You forgot to mention how Mr. Holmes (retired Michigan CO) went on to talk at length about all the negative effects he's seen with regards to Musky stocking on Michigan lakes.

I'd love to hear all the spear bashing at a Muskies Inc. benefit, I'm sure we paled in comparison.

It's funny how certain members here can stir the pot all they like pushing there agendas, yet certain members will get banned for these type of posts?

Mr Holmes is also the President of the Michigan Darkhouse Assn, you forgot to mention that too.

I do not want to play into the hands of people trolling around on here but I have a question.

Is it legal to spear muskies in Michigan?

If it isn't I have an issue with anyone involved. If it isn't it is really a non issue.

I will not post anything else on this topic so save any bashing of me if someone does not agree with me.

I just want to know what the law says.

I can't recall hearing any spear bashing at any Muskies Inc benefits I've been to. Not that there hasn't ever been any, I'm sure there is on occasion when people are talking privately to each other. But public displays in front of everyone? Considering there are many darkhouse guys in Muskies Inc (including board members that were elected by "musky guys") I can't imagine those events turning into an anti-spearing campaign.

For what it's worth, one of the biggest spearers I know has said that he is looked down upon by many MDAA members simply because he fishes for muskies. Not because of his stance on any issues. But for the simple fact that he fishes for muskies. Doesn't make much sense to me. The way I see it, we are all trying to enjoy a potentially fragile resource. And there's no reason we can't all work together on what's in the best interest of our fisheries. Start out where you have common ground and go from there. Instead, the approach always seems to be to start where we disagree. And we'll never make any progress going about it like that.

Life is short. Spend it p'd off at each other if you'd like. Or learn to give a little if you expect to take a little. That isn't directed at any one side. That's to both sides of these issues. We're blessed in MN with our resources. Let's take care of them so we can enjoy them today and for future generations. There's plenty of compromise to be had if we're willing to work towards that end. Work together and let our fisheries professionals guide us to some positive management of our resources. We've made a lot of strides forward over the years, but just as many backwards at times.

From the perspective of someone who does not spear or fish for muskies, sure makes sense to me.....

The way I see it we ALL need to work together to get what WE ALL want better opportunities for trophy fish weather its thru spearing or catch and release or even fish for the dinner plate.

Lets not turn this into a P!ssing match over who's right or whos wrong.

lets see what we can do to make things better for both sports so WE ALL can enjoy what WE love to do.

As Arron said Life is to short.. Lets make something work

BTW those are some great words ARRON

This is HSO and here at HSO WE have More FUN Lets try to keep it that way..

Thanks

Gordie

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
