10" worms

5/0 or 6/0 but the 6/0 are tough to find. conditions will depict the weight. I've switched recently to all tungsten weights that are a bit smaller and harder than the equivlent lead weight. Most times when fishing shallow pencil reeds or shallow structure of anykind with little wind I'll have a 1/8 oz and for deeper weed edges I'll have 3/8 up to 1/2 oz.

I use Berkley and Zoom 10 inch worms with a tail and they do work pretty well. I am under the assumption of bigger worm, bigger fish. I have used it a few times this year so far and lost a few bass because they werent hooked. The bass probably took the tail of the worm only. I hooked it in the middle of the worm too texas style, but the worm must have been too big or something.

5/0 with a screwlock bullet weight or gambler rattling florida rig (screw Style) allows you to screw the worm to the weight feed your hook farther down the worm.

i also heard of people using rubber slip bobber Knots as a weight stop and just setting it at the head of the worm after you thread the hook down farther .

5/0 Gamy skip gap, 1/8 oz. gremlin bullet pegged & 10" worm. My experience is that the skip gap hooks hold the worm much better than any others. Use this 75% of the time and have three other worm rigged rods for other conditions. I fish worms all the time so don't need to be bothered by crankbait rods, spinnerbait rods etc. smile

Crawler harness

I had a guide client make me look like a fool with a pre-rigged Touchdown worm years ago. He pulled it out and I kind of teased him about it... Brutal cold front day, I fished a jigworm and a grub, and he absolutely *throttled* me dragging it on a split shot rig...

I still carry a few. Awesome for kids - all they have to do is cast and reel, and you rarely miss a fish.

To the original question: 5/0 hook, and the sinker weight varies depending on conditions.

RK,

Can you describe that rig you're talking about in a little more detail. I've just recently been taking a couple friends out in my boat that have youngsters old enough to fish (5-10yrs) that type of stuff and the last attempt the poor guy was pretty frustrated with getting so many weeds with what we were giving him. I'd be curious to know more weedless approaches like you're mentioning that are kid friendly.

its a pre-rigged worm - you know, the 99 cent ones you get off the end-cap in a sporting goods store. In a plastic bag stapled to a cardboard holder

They are killer sometimes, just throw a split shot 18 inches up and cast out and drag in.

Aaron -

Google "Touchdown Worm" and you'll find them. They're goofy looking things - pre-rigged with a leader, hooks, and they come folded up in the package. Crank them in slowly and they just kind of rotate and wobble around. Put a swivel in front of them and a bullet weight in front of that, and you're fishing...

Several companies make them I'm sure, but the ones I got my clock cleaned by were Touchdown worms... I remember it very clearly smile
