worst baits used...

Recommended Posts

Ok what the worst baits You have found, something they won't eat or they eat last.

I put out an onion once they didn't eat it entire season.

Also bread without any grease on it just gets green for me.

Im kinda of jealous of ya, being pumped up for bear season and all. With all your posts, this must be the only thing on your mind.

As for bad baits, I wouldn't try anything not proven. Some good baits Ive had that didnt produce were due to the amount of natural food sources. Last year we did the combo of trail mix, licorice, and chocalate frosting. I did this for being a wet season and it was pretty waterproof. Worked well and lasted though alot of rain. Just needed alot of grease and scents since the bait was not strong smelling. Sometimes a good bait has to do other things than just taste good.

Yeah I am pumped up, does it show smile I honestly wasn't planning on getting drawn and was very happy I did. I have been couped up all winter will be fun scouting and baiting this summer. I had a fun and learned a lot last year on this site a lot of nice guys on here that go out of their way to help others with good info from years of experience.

Thanks

Bad bait bad bait hmmmmmmmm...dead fish. i know it draws them in but, I found my crib open an the fish still there full of bugs an [PoorWordUsage]. Didnt do that again. that was early in my bear journy. This year i wanna try spiking my fryer grease with salmon oil for a attractant, an have the goodies waiting. Wont rot an will attract an get spread all over the place by all critter. there are alot of guys that swear by hanging fish to open a site well they also know how bad it smells after awhile, even if they hang it away from the crib to keep away nasties. the fish oil will never spoil.

Sweet corn never got touched the one year I tried it. Meat scraps never got touched either.

I have hunted bear for many years, and two consistent good hits are fresh meat, raw or cooked, and sweet and field corn! I freeze the meat and keep it fresh and cool until I put it out and they will always take it. I have watched them take burgers, peel open the bun, and take out the meat. They will go through all of the sandwiches doing this, then finally eat the buns.

Worst bait I have tried using was custard donut filling. I have several pails left over from previous years sitting in the shed, and one finally burst from freezing this winter and is oozing out the crack. This stuff is over 5 years old and unrefridgerated the whole time and still looks fresh. My dog keeps licking it up as it comes out, and so far does not seem to get sick from it either. When I put it out they never ate it. They will eat custard filled donuts like crazy, but not the filling by itself for some reason.

Chicken!, bad bad bad, got a "tip" once that said to use chicken, went to a place that grew chik's, he said oh ya it's going fast so I got 2 big box's of raw chicken parts, dead chikens , rotton chickens etc all froze. Day 3 comes around nothing touched and it I could see why. I threw up all the way to the pit and a 1/2 mile away back. Had to find another spot. Now I have bear hunted many times , baited with friends many more. I will never use yard bird again. ( I think that they just wanted to find a way to dump the stuff.)

Yup for sure, wen i seperate chicken from the packs to freeze, I always freeze the packaging an juice tampon an put it out for garbage day in the morining, but everyso often my wife sneaks one into the outside to simmer in a big balck plastic can for a few day before pick up. OMG it would gag a maggot. So the nod gose to machohorn in my opinion. Boar
