reinhard1
glad you liked the mop and sauce. i thought last year they were cheaper at target. but i'm not complaining. i will stock up for sure. i remember st louis at target last year also at 1.49 but i can understand the price increases with fuel gone up and other stuff. next saturday will be my first "rib fest" with the family and i'm sure some neighbors will stop by. good luck. McGurk
I remember spares at Target for $1.79/lb, but not trimmed St Louis cuts. THAT would be deal!
reinhard1
i could be wrong on the price but i know they were st louis ribs and fully trimmed to boot. this was at the supertarget in blaine last memorial week. good luck.
curtistodd
So spareribs are good, St. Louis are better, and baby back is the best?? I definitely want to try and make my own this week or next.
reinhard1
yes thats about right but some would argue which one is the best. spareribs have the brisket still on and st louis do not. that's the only difference between the two. baby backs are in a league of their own but normaly more expensive. prepared as been stated on various threads on this forum they can all be excelent. just important to take your time. good luck. McGurk
St Louis style ribs are simply a portion of a typical Spare Rib rack. You cut off parts of a spare to end up with a "St Louis style" rack. Here is a good video showing what to do, but there are a half dozen other vids on youtube that show the process, too. The only thing he is missing is "folding" the rib to find the cartilage and using the bend point to tell you where to make your first major cut. reinhard1
that's a good video. i notice the brisket bone was already off but it does show what a st louis rib is all about. when we cut spare ribs for the case that is how we cut them prior to packaging. good luck. Leaky
Good video!Stopped into Super Target in Blaine. They had a lot of the baby backs out @ $2.49. I picked up 6 slabs, but they are selling them at that price till gone. Also had 80/20 ground chuck for $2.49. Picked up 9 lbs (6 for a batch of Sloppy Joes I'm fixing for an upcoming fishing trip). Its weird that they don't sell them in 3 lb packages, though. Seems like a waste of packaging to me.
reinhard1
thanks for the heads up on the ribs. normaly when they run out of back ribs they will sub st. louis ribs or spare ribs. if they do run out later i will go to a super walmart and get the spare ribs for 2.07 which is also a good price. good luck. hockeybc69
Thanks for all the tips on places that have ribs on sale. I can see this topic living strong for a long time as more sales come up.At least I hope so, I seem to struggle to get good ribs for a half decent price. I am in the wrong place at the wrong time too often.

RebelSS
Just wanted to say "Thanks" to all for the tip on the Wally World ribs. Just got back from there with my rack. Would have liked to pick up 3 or 4, but the budget won't allow it. Also, my only freezer is the one in my 'fridge, and thats full....oh well. I'll get two good meals outta these. KEN W
Thanks for the heads up for me also.....got some from both places.I hardly ever use Baby Backs....to expensive....but this time at $2.49.....I went for it.
McGurk
Stopped at Target and grabbed 6 more racks and 10 lbs of 80/20 grd chuck (hamburger). The only problem with the hamburger was the packaging; really wasteful when you are getting some to freeze. The racks are tiny compared to what Rainbow had to offer. Most of the Target racks were between 6 and 7 dollars, and were smaller in size (and price!) than the racks I've seen at Rainbow. Bring on the summer! I may be going back for more grd chuck and I was impressed with the look and smell of it. I know; that sounds weird unless you know what I mean about the smell of raw, grd beef. reinhard1
i'm going back myself today to get more back ribs. the racks are smaller but that's ok. i'm buying the ground beef at county market at 2.19 in 3lb tubes for 80/20. good to have a larger freezer and stock up. good luck. KEN W
Yeah I noticed the BB were smaller....5 racks for about $35.That's only 2-3 lbs per rack. The spares at Walmart are nice size....but they come with the brisket on.
reinhard1
actualy i like the smaller racks. better meat in my opinion. same with spareribs. we used to cut what we called 3 1/2 pound and down and then there were 5 and up weight wise but hardly ever got them in unless we were short with our normal stock.. better quality on the smaller racks. i did find some racks in the back ribs today that were a little over seven bucks. going again tommorow. unless you only bought 5 the limit is 6 at target. good luck. Mid-Lake Rock
Hi guys. I have a buddy that is a store manager for Target. They over bought on ribs. He said that they might drop the price to well below $2.49. If this does happen it will be in the next few days. No guarantee but keep your eyes open. I will post if I hear more. Fisherman For a Lifetime
Thanks for the tip - I'll keep stoppin' in. I got a few racks at Target for $2.49/Lb, but I also had some $1.00 off coupons to get 'em even cheaper. Woo-hoo!
