Public or private?

Private. Had to many people mess up a hunt on public land.

Last year I had two kids messing up my turkey hunting. They were illegally walking around private land turkey hunting where I was. They never saw me, but they did call at my decoy for a good half hour once they saw it.

Eventually I started laughing and went and grabbed my decoy and went home since they were making so much noise and were bad at calling.

ha your lucky you didn't get shot at, i got shot at once duck hunting guys though our decoys were real, i think that was also the last time i went duck hunting

That is another thing that sucks about public land. Ive been shot a couple times. By random people and by a friend. One was on public land were a guy shot over the hill from the bottom with out knowing where we were. Our vehicle was parked next to theirs and we were their first! Heard the first shot go over my head, second shot was shortly after and I turned backwards. Finally, I climbed up to the tippy top where they could see me and yelled at them. they darted for their vehicle and took off.

The other time was some geese that flew over me and a friend, he shot straight up, on a no wind day. he kept looking up wondering how the heck he missed them. Finally I said look at that big fish! which got him to look down and then it rained steel on us.

Gotta love that pepper action!

I've had bad memories on both. I do Quality Deer Management and will try to take only mature does without fawns with the bow and only take a decent buck or have tag soup. I had an amazing turkey season on private land this spring hunt the same spot in the fall and the neighbors didn't know I was there till I got on top of them waving a blaze orange hat 50 yards from them. I've had lots of problems with neighbors and friends of neighbors that accidentally cannot see private property signs. I prefer private but sadly till I own my own land public is also nice but I wear blaze walking in and out during bow season

Private land in MN

Public land in Iowa & Nebraska

I would love to hunt South Dakotas public land, but until they change the law allowing people to use rifles to hunt turkeys. There's no chance!
