Great deer and very nice mounts. Isn't hunting ND fun?

I love hunting ND and am fortunate to have married into some nice farm land there. I used to hunt wisconsin when I was younger and must say that both states have nice deer, but completely different styles of hunting due to the landscape.

I am assuming that both you and your dad are MN residents (and that the two of you applied together for buck tags in ND as non residents)? If so, how many years (and preference points) did it take for you to draw the buck tags?

Inthenorthwoods,

We used to apply together years ago, but have decided to apply seperately to better the odds that atleast one of us has a buck tag every few years and that person gets a shot at a nice deer. This past year just so happen that we both drew a tag after 4 years of only doe tags for him and 3 for me. He got a any buck and I had a whitetail buck. It usually comes out that I get a buck tag once every 4 years. I really don't mind as I am able to be with my dad and inlaws and see some nice deer roaming the farm. The does taste great also grin

Thanks for the nice compliments guys.

Was just curious since I am now in the non-resident boat in ND and have thought about convincing my dad & brother to start applying. I applied last year (the first as a NR) and didn't get a tag. I am still trying to figure out how long it might be before I draw. As it stands, I buy a ND bow tag every year, but sometimes I think it would be nice to hunt during the gun season with a gun.

I've looked through these all, not a bum in the bunch. All great mounts.

One thing I noticed, and this is NOT a slam on anyones mount at all, but taxidermists all put a different expression on deer mounts. Some have slight eye closure making them look a little sneaky or mad, while others have bigger eyes and the back of the lips lifted, almost making them look like they are smiling.

Like I said, not slamming any of these great mounts, just noticing the differences.

Just got my 2010 archery buck back from the taxi...13 pt. NT, and he tells me he scored him at 147. Decided to go with a semi upright form this time, and I like it.

He fits in nicely with the others grin

The yellow pin is marking an exit wound we found on the inside of the cape made by a 3 blade broadhead. I wish i would have taken a picture from the inside which you could see the scar. This deer was 7.5 years old. we are guessing the wound to be a few years old. Almost an esophagus hit. very close to have been killed by someone other than myself!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
