Panfish Sweetheart or Noodle?

Debating between the Panfish Sweetheart rod or the Noodle. I am of need of a panfish rod to handle small jigs (1/16th and lighter). I am going to pair it with a fly reel. I see that TB has a nice set-up with the Quiverstick, but I like the site of the tip bouncing before the feel.

Thanks for all of the help.

You can get a Power Noodle built anyway you want, have them put a fly rod handle on a Noodle. I like the Noodle more than the Quiverstick. Very sensitive for a glass rod and don't have to worry about braking the tip as much. I'm going to check on the guide options. The recoil guides are nice but they bend real easy when it gets cold.

If you want visual, go with the Powernoodle. I really like my quiversticks and they will give visual hits, but they are much more of a "touchy-feely" type rod.

If you fish outside much I'd think about getting the recoil guides on it. I have been useing them for about 4 years on rods and use n abuse my gear - no problems with them yet...

As for handles - some guys like the fly handles, I dont. I like to mount my reel a tad more forward so I can pistol/pencil grip the handle. And thats with fly reels also... cool

What kind of fly reel do u use for ice fishing.

Like Trav said - the Okuma SLV is a nice reel. I have a few of the 2/3's and 4/5's. I prefer the 4/5 on most rods except for the real short stuff.

Any smaller or med size reel will work. Some run less expensive ones with no drag and just use thier thumb for "drag control".

The SLV's have a great drag without costing hundreds as many fly reels do. They run around 60$. They also run lighter in weight than most reels in that range and size. There are alot of options out there. I also run a Ross Flystart on a perch sweetheart for shallow eyes cool

You can get Okumas on the electronic bay site. Got one for $45 after shipping.

If you do run one, get something to fill the spool up with (any cheap line). This will create a bigger arbor and allow you to gain more line per revolution of the spool.

I bought the cheapest thickest backing I could find. All it's there for is to make your arbor bigger. Nothing more.

You could use yarn and tape over it to separate your line from your backing if you wanted to.

Just wanted to thank Dark Cloud for his advice on TB rods. Took the

plunge this morning on # one a 30" Quiverstick with rec guides and 6"

handle. I like the idea of being able to feel and see the bite.

I just submitted an order to TB.

- 22" Noodle

- Hidden handle but shorten the butt cork

- recoild guides

I've been using the Mitchell meatstick for years and love it! I love how I don't need a spring bobber and virtually see the bites. However the guides are not to my expectations so I ordered a custom to meet my specs from TB. I believe it will perform just like the Mitchel Meatstick and more. One thing I must say, recoil guides are not that great for outside, it doesn't retain its shape in the bitter cold but works great inside.

BTW, there's a 3 + week back order.

Hope that helps.

Called Thorne Bros today to see if they have any power noodles in stock. They said they only have a few sweetheart models in and are WAY behind on the power noodles and other models. Im glad I called so i didn't waste 2 hours of the day. It looks like about 4 weeks for these models:(

Thanks,

I learned a little trick from Jack Baker when it comes to fly reels for ice fishing. He uses a layer of flexible foam around the reel and then he runs some clear tape over that so the line doesn't dig into the foam. I was thinking of trying 1/4" or 1/2" foam around the reel I got. to get this foam go to a hobby shop that sell radio controled vehicles and get the foam that is used around the radio recievers. it is flexible. then just put the line on directly.

I have some buddies who fish with fly reels, look like nice setups. What kind of backing do you guys use for fly reels?

Coated tip-up line works well(the black stuff) or some bait shops will sell fly line mill ends cheap. I bought some for $4 bucks

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
