Legal Question

Ziesmer

Recommended Posts

I was out on Rush Lake last Sat in a portable with my wife and 5yo. Guy set up a perm about 50 ft from me (no big deal). His buddy came driving up in a jeep and was doing donuts on the ice less than 50 ft from us. I couldn't believe it. If you call the DNR or local SO will they come out for stuff like that or is the ice kind of free game to act like an [PoorWordUsage]?

Good question?

Is it legal - Not sure... Is it endangering others... Yes.

50' is close enough for a truck to lose control (during a "teenager" donut on the ice) and take your portable and you with him eek

Call the local sherrif.

I probably would have chewed him out.

Yes were all teenagers at one time, and like all people, they have to learn sometime what not to do...Sometimes it takes a cop to do so.

Yes I was a teenager at one point, but I still had respect for others too. I would do doughnuts in empty parking lots or such, not within a couple car lengths of someone. I was out on Rush on Sat. but did not see this guy or I would have called the police.

he's the same kind who will leave tons of garbage on the ice and take more than his limit of fish.

call it in next time, but "chewing him out" may not be a good idea as if he's dumb enough to do something like that...god knows what else he'd do or if hes liquored up or high on drugs...you just never know. discreetly call it in, take photos for evidence if possible. try not to call too much attention to yourself by moving locations especially if you fish that lake regularly (unless there are clearly lots of other fisherman around)

just be cautious and do the right thing.

+1

If it was adults, then its even worse!!! I don't care if people do a few donuts on the ice, as long as they don't endanger anybody but themselves!!

haha theres not one guy on this site that cant day a fue donuts on glare ice isnt fun. even in your 40,000 dollar trucks.

just go do it in the middle of the lake. and as my buddy found out a fue years ago it will make a ice wave if you do it to long and the truck will go down!!! but one or two is just a good way to get the adrenilen pumping before you go out and drill 200 holes. haha

IF this was West Rush by Rush City, its not normal or acceptable to see this sort of thing out there, but with the crowds that are out on that lake you run into more than your fair share of jerkholes out there. I would have called him in, probably drunk...

I'm glad you and your family weren't harmed.

I think I'm old. 10 years ago I would have been the one doing the doughnuts (more than 50 feet away... I preferred secluded areas for doing stupid stuff). Now as I think it would be fun right before I push the gas I also think of how much gear is in the truck that's gonna get tossed every which way and broken and all them $$ make me drive slower. LOL, I apparently had more money to spend when I was a teenager than I do now even though I make a lot more than I did flipping burgers.

I'd call them in, can't hurt to just let the Sheriff know so they can swing by and at the very least let them know they are being watched.

I know it is illegal for a fact after reading an article in the Star Tribune a few weeks ago. You can get a ticket for anything that you can get a ticket for on the road including drunk driving and speeding in excessive speeds. I was reading a police blotter today and it had one about some kids whipping 360s in a parking lot and the cop watched them and cited them, so it would be the same on the ice.

I find it interesting that people immediately assume it was a teenager doing donuts although no details were given other than it was some guy.

It sounds like the person lacks common sense and respect....a call to a LEO would take care of it. Some people need to learn the hard way and I'd much rather hear of someone being cited for stupidity than harming someones life in an act of stupidity.

this is clearly reckless driving, he could of struck you and your friends, his friends or anyone else nearby. spinning around on ice is uncontrolable, unpredictable. You could of taken his license number down, make model of vehicle, and more importantly, a good description of the driver. called it in, and the local LEO taken a report from you and either mailed the citation, or handed it to the violater in person. But,, come court time, the reportee (you) would have to come to court and discribe what you saw the violator do. it's on the reportee, not the officer to prove.

good luck, lets stop these idiots.

I enjoy whipping the occasional donut. Of course I am no where near anyone. I just think it is fun.

I think just mentioning to the guy that he is a little close would clear things up. 99% of people are reasonable. If they give you guff, the authorities may be the best option. Plenty of people are too afraid of confrontation. Confrontation does not have to be a negative or rude.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
