Rope lights (junk?......)

He's just talking about the design. They are circular and look like a UFO. HT makes some, but I went to Wally world and went to their camping section and bought the exact same design for like $7-8 bucks. Much cheaper than the same exact ones marketed for "ice fishing".

In my experience they are junk. I had the exact same problem.

I bought a small led strip from the prostore (FireBRIGHT FLEX Tube LED 9 1/2"). They are much brighter, take up less room, and have been proven RELIABLE. They also draw very little amperage.

I store it right behind my vexilar. It's ready to go whenever and wherever needed.

I have tried rope lights and round ufo lights and did not like any of them...I went back to the 12 volt light bulb and clip it to a spare battery. It is brighter than any of the other lights and only costed about $10. I have heard good things about the led lights you can buy on this site but have not tried them yet..... just my 2c

As of right now I'd suggest the ODPS also. I just got mine today a 48" strip. I've only held it up in the porty but they do seem to have a lot of light output. After I get installed and try it out a couple times I'll know more but it looks good right now.

I'm thinking a 48" up front and a 24" or 36" behind me for tieing jigs, etc. should really light things up. I've tried the clams[junk, gave them away], 2-ufos 48led[good light output, poor durability].

If these lights hold up in the long run they'll be well worth the money.

go to mills and in their auto dept get the florescent light that hooks to your car battery in case of an emergency (don't remember brand but its yellow). knock off the alligator clips, shorten wires as needed, and attach some posts that fit to a vexilar battery. it draws so little power and is plenty bright. it comes with a hanger and will hang almost anywhere. I use one in my clam 200 hung from ceiling and my buddy uses 2 in his command post. it's 15 or 20 dollars and best thing i've used/seen for lighting a portable. just an idea

Hands down. Get the OPS Firebrite LEDs in the appropriate length for your porty. Probably the 48s, maybe 38 for a 1 man. The Clam ropes are sticker slapped junk and anything but LED draws way too much juice. Get 2 or 3 and put em on the front and middle overheads. A third under the rail of your sled is nice to light up only what you're looking at. I have 3 in my Yukon and can get a tan if I run them all.

Rope lighting was good but the technology has quickly passed it bye, from when we first started to model it into Ice Shacks kits some 6 - 8 years ago. Some of my first ice house lighting kits I made still work today, but the new materials I use now really makes the Rope Lights obsolete in comparison.

I run Warm White LEDs and a UV Blacklight SMD bar combination to enhance my view-ability while fishing. This combination makes Dead Stick rods, floats, tiny jigs, and tackle far more visible, and line handling a snap. Even with micro thin super braids in the night.

If your looking for a cooler, more crisp lighting, then the White or Warm White Tri-Chip Tubes are the best I have seen.

I used the rope lights as well. After fixing the plug and sockets that plagued these lights later what I've found was a bit more alarming. The insulation for the wiring would crack in the cold and cause a direct short. I caught that early enough before it burnt my house down or the battery blew up. Installing an in-line fuse is a good idea.

The Firebrite LED Lights use heavy duty, commercial grade wiring.

I just bought a clam fan/light from FF and the fan works great but the light quits after 3-4 minutes. I was glad the 3 rope lites were still in the Otter. They have a few spots that don't work anymore. They get beat up from all the moving in the portable. I put 3 of the GM rope lights in my perm 4 years ago and they still work great. They are not bright enough to tie nots so I found a 12 volt flourescent screw in style bulb that works good and draws less than half the wattage of an incandescent.I have a pull string on that just use it when I need it.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
