Was ice fishing today! Only for about 15 minutes cause I had to go to work but I was still fishing! Was on 2 and a half almost three.

I even Googled it to make sure the St. James I was thinking of WAS down by Mankato and not up by Canada somewhere.

Is there fish besides bullheads in that "lake"? If so, you won...although actually having caught a fish would be much more impressive.

There's no way that's St James by Mankato. There isn't that much ice on my pond right now.

You win. But I am having hard time to believe. Anywhoo I drive south to work by Redwood Falls, I saw two small ponds completely frozen at lunch time today. Oddly, its been colder down here past couple of days. This morning at 7am it was 8 degree.

I didn't have much time to explain indepth before, but I will now. Most lakes in the area have only skim ice if that. However this lake has been froze over sense at least friday. This lake is the only lake in the area with safe ice, atleast that I have seen. The ice is solid clear ice the slush is from the hole. The lake is basicly a big duck slough (179 acres). There are perch in the lake however and some say their are some big ones. But mainly is bullheads. Sadly I did not catch any thing in the short time. I might make it back out tommorrow with some live bait and see how that goes.

We have ice in northern iowa its just gonna be a few days before i can make it out on it. Good job stay safe.

Walkable ice in SE SD as well. Its just too bad I left my ice fishing stuff back home. At least I have to head home for thanksgiving and will all but guarantee I will do a little fishing around home this weekend.

I am originally from St James, and know exactly where TJ was fishing, and can easily believe that where he was is frozen over because I fished that "lake" last year very early in the year (Before anywhere else was frozen)

A good size lake near Tyler MN, (2 hours from St James and almost straight West) is completely frozen over and will probably be ready to get out on in a few days with the overnight lows!

Congrats TJ (I've struggled to get them to bite on that lake but there are perch in there.... or so I've always been told!) It gets deeper if you walk a ways out from where I think you went on!

I know where you where at, TjB. She was making more ice while I was pheasant hunting by there yesterday. There were lots of perch last year early ice, nothing over 6 inches but this year could be a different story.
