Buddy and I were on our way to work wed. morning when I saw two nice bucks locked up.We pulled over to watch. They were about 50 yds off the hwy. Then a few other guys stopped we watched for a bit. We called a CO officer and the state patrol. Then one of the guys said we should go and try and free them, one of them was already dead. So four of us tried pulling, yanking, tugging and prying with no luck.We then tried to knock off the antler on the dead buck with a hammer again no luck. Then one guy remembered he had a saw in the truck. He was able to saw one antler on the dead buck. The live buck tho a little weak and hobbled regained some strength and took off running over a hill.Hope he makes it a really nice buck. The other guys all left so my buddy and I waited for an officer to show. When two state patrol cars pulled up we went over to talk to them. They asked where the two deer are.We said we freed one and one was dead. The one looked at us like we were nuts and said he came here to shoot them. The other one said with a smile we did the right thing and offered to gut the deer seeing we didnt have a knife. Both were great guys. All the work was done when another gentleman pulled up.He said he heard about it on a scanner and called someone who said he could have the deer. The officer told him we were the first ones to stop we freed the one gutted it and got him to the shoulder of the road so we get it. The guy then got upset that we didnt kill the other one so he could have one. I just said never thought of it. The dead buck had 15 pts with a 4" drop tine weighed 180-190.There were two more patrol cars on their way to see the two deer when they were called off20101110101632.jpg20101110073348.jpg

thats something you don't see every day, good job!. did you rock, paper, scissors for the dead deer? did anyone have a buck tag you could of taken the live one. of course if you did that the CO may have given you a citation for tresspassing or something and confiscated both deer. i'm surprised they didn't take the one.

A coouple years ago two yuppies found two bull elk locked up. One just about dead and the other floundering. He decides to he is gonna seperate them instead he got gored under the rib cage but didn't quite reach his heart. He spent a week in the hospital and when inviewed stated "it was stronger then me". Imagine that!!! an elk stronger then a human. I can't remember what became of the bulls.

The dead buck died from being stabbed around 5 to 6 times, when we skinned the deer the front shoulder was pretty messed up with a huge hole and a few in his rib cage. The front shoulder was basically a huge blood clot. The deer were in a park in the metro so killing the live buck never crossed our minds. The freed buck might live or he could die but at least now he has a chance. The state patrol called the CO officer to let him the bucks were freed. He said the CO would have probably tried to free. They issued us a tag for the deer.As for the horns my buddy and I decided to split the costs for a shoulder mount and share the mount between houses and maybe give it to a small sporting goods store or something along those lines.
