I only got 4 flats all year and was skunked til sept. I think mostly cause I didn't have much patience to start with live bait and switched to cutbait for channels most nights. It was my rookie cat season though and it was a blast. Looking forward to next year.

I quit keeping track in early to mid july and even then it was boat totals, not personal catches. Based on that data, boat total was probably right around 150 this year. No idea how many of those I caught personally. That's fishing anywhere from 80-100 days this summer and maybe 600-800 hours (or maybe more).

I think a ballpark figure is like 7-10hrs per fish.

Every year I say I'm going to keep a better log, and every year I fail horribly. frown

I tried that the first couple years and gave up. I only track on big ones and league nights, no fun to track unless your on fire.... and that doesn't happen enough.

I got my one fish over 40lbs for the season with a few upper 30s. The rest blend in with all the others over the years.

I kept track of all mine, but it is on my laptop and I sent that in for repair. I had a rather slow year as well. I didnt get out much in May or early June, do to kids sports, and didnt catch a flat after the middle of July. And I have had many hours of fishing in to try to break that streak. It was a slow year for me. I caught a total of 19 flats this year.

Warning for next KOTC 2011, my kids will be at their moms most of the summer, and I no longer have a wife to go home to.

Sometimes you really don't want to know how many or how much because it is kind of depressing when you really crunch the numbers. I keep track of everything and I analyze just about everything to try to help me improve. My "After Action Report" is pretty tough on me though.

Times Fished: 69

Times Skunked: 30 for a 43% skunk rate.

Flatheads caught: 17 (biggest this year 41" X 26" for 34#)

Channels caught: 45 (biggest a whopper 35" X 25" 60 point KOTC entry)

I still finished in 3rd place in the King of the Cats Channel Division.

I can't wait for next spring. I'm ready to go.

zero for this guy as well... just bought my first cat rod this year, and got out catfishing twice i believe... we caught a channel and a softshell turtle one night.. the other night, blakeb and myself witnessed one of the biggest lightning storms of the summer and got chased off the water!

there's always next year wink

Zero for this guy too...but as far as I know we don't have flats in the Red grin

I actually only got out twice for channels all year. It was tough since I moved to Fargo and had to completely relearn the river. That, and my new job gave me new hours, so my fishing time was severely limited. I sure had it nice in Grand Forks. Nothing like driving a half mile to the best stretch of channel cat fishing on the Red. Heck, how do you think I was able to take first in KOTC two years ago? Fish all morning, work all night, repeat as necessary wink

If your only counting over 40 inches then ONE for Me But I stated early in the season that if I caught one that went as big as I got I would hang up the rest of the season for the KTOC is concerned laugh

Personal best that I will have a hard time beating= 50x31.5=60 pounds

I will try for the state record next year and if I catch it I will have fofilled my catfish quest in Minnesota grin....but I'll probally have to sit back and know that hotpocket broke the state record laugh

I probably caught about a dozen flats and no big ones. Didn't fish nearly as much as I wanted to. An interesting note about my season was that the average channel cat I caught clocked in at around 10 lbs. I tried several times to catch eating size channels but kept catching 10lbers. So not a bad season I suppose...

      As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…

      I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...

      Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?

      I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

      Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.

      The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.

      It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.

      We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there,but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
