I need someone to hunt with

Funny you say that as it is a concern of mine that I've already brought up. So far it sounds like the people I've connncted with are safe as well. There's a vetting process on both sides.

That's great to hear. Make sure to post your success or stories for all to enjoy!

shoot straight!

I also know people that bring brandy or coffee mixed with something to the stand with them. I have done it and still do but i ONLY have A shot and a cig after the kill.I wait until all work is done and then it's on. .There are "bad apples" out there but dont put everyone in the same boat.I do agree the "party" belongs at camp..Just my 2 cents..

I'm hesitant to hunt with someone that even drank the night before. Ive seen people who were under the influence the night before not make smart choices the next morning out in the duck boat.

If it wasn't for me one of my buddies could be blind today. He decided after only getting a few hours of sleep on heavy night of binge drinking to shoot vertically at some geese.

He kept watching them fly over after the shot and I strongly suggested he looked down. He asked why, and I said just do it now. Than we got rained on with #2 steel shot.

Ever since than if my buddies were out drinking the night before in an extensive manner I don't even show up to get them the next morning.

I know that if you are legally drunk you can get your license revoked. Not sure how long. I don't believe there is anything about possessing alcohol. I could be wrong.I do know that if you accidentally kill someone, even if it was an accident while under the influence, you will be getting charged with manslaughter and spend a few seasons in jail.

I am almost sorry i chimed in and gave my opinion... With that said, i hope everyone uses common sense and is safe out there...

No need to be sorry! You do the right thing. AFTER the job is done. I think people who bring a bottle with them, or drink before. they shouldn't be hunting at all.

Another option would be Potlatch Co. land. I used to have a lease with them and as far as i can remember unleased land is open for public use. Jump to their HSOforum and look for the lease manager he will get back to you pretty quick, at least he did when I asked him questions. You can also get the GPS coordinants and ariel maps for land parcels. Good luck.

I got a 6-point buck last night at about 4:14. I got it dressed and hung up before dark. I was on public land north of Duluth. I still can't believe it. Thanks everyone for all your advice. There is a lot of land to hunt if you're willing to drive. The PRIM map I got at the Minnesota store was invaluable.

It was moving when I shot it and it dropped on the spot. Notuntil i got in the ribcage did I realize that i hit the spine. Incredible. I feel very fortunate right now.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
