Favorite Fair Food!!!

It is nearly that time of year....We will be making the big trek north on Weds. (from Dallas)just in time to go the the fair. My mouth starts watering just thinking about it...As I grew up in MN I have my own favs...Carmel apple in a cup, walleye on a stick, pronto pups, cheese curds...WOW! What are some of your favorite food sites...This may be the one and only time exact locations and directions may be given out hahahaha!!!

Sometimes I crave a taco from the stand on the north side of the DNR building. I always seem to stop there. Get a taco & watch the sturgeon, flatheads & whatever else is swimming in the pond. Of course I always go for the traditional Pronto Pups, Cheese Curds, Mini Donuts, & all the milk you can drink. How much is that now, 50 cents a cup? I think it's just south of the DNR Bldg. I've had catfish & hushpuppies from the food building a few times. Not bad, at least for Fair food. Something different anyway. I haven't had the walleye on a stick yet though. How about the alligator? I tried it the first time they had it, but don't remember what it tasted like. I'll have to try it again out of curiosity. For me, it's all about the food these days! Vern

we always get the cheese curds and a salted nut roll and home made potato chips at hormel!! blummin onions are great french fries and chocolate chip cookies hot from the oven by wcco radio( the milk really goes good with them) then i got to go to the church dinner for a cup of egg coffee!!

My favorite food was new last year, Macaroni and cheese on a stick, really. We always have to have a big bucket of those fair fries as well.

Not sure if it is my favorite, but it is something that I have to have every year. Have to stop by Chef John's place and get a Rueben. One of the best sandwiches at the fair.

Apples in a bowl with carmel on top, french fries, gyros, foot long hotdogs, cheese curds fresh squeezed lemonade, saltwater taffy, I guess there isn't much I don't like other than the long lines you have to wait in to buy the food.

The alligator I had there tasted like chicken saturated in northern(pike) slime for a couple hours... Maybe it was just the peice I had .. it was gristly .. didnt care for it.

Last year I found a great steak sandwich at one of the stands that was covered in peppers and onions .. I'll be looking for them again this year on my way to the fish tank.

As we plan our trek by the food stands, my hubby's are foot long corn dog, danielsons onion rings,honey sundaes,iced coffee,cotton candy,cheese curds,cookies,and walleye on a stick, then it's lunch time

Gotta be the curds! Wash'em down with some 3.2 and have some of those Choclate Chips cookies for desert. I of course eat this incredible meal while looking at the fish in the DNR pond.

Green Guy, when are these lead free products going to become available in stores for the same price as lead? Cant find much of it and what I do find is way more than lead. You would think if those making this stuff really wanted it used it would be competitively priced. Maybe its not worth the added headache? Is bismuth etc. that more pricey than lead or is it that there arent many manufacturers?

They should have an all you can drink beer stand for $5 kind of like a house pary. I would have to say a turcky leg or beer. It all seem good.

Cheese curds, onion rings, drumsticks, malts, etc. I must say the best thing is a bucket of Sweet Martha's cookies together with the .50 milk deal! Then I think I'll go to the DNR fish pond and suffer.

Maybe I'll stop by the PETA booth too and ask for some "Kitten On A Stick"

I would say that non-lead fishing tackle is at a similar point to when non-lead bird shot alternatives starting hitting the market several years ago. It will take time for the market to develop and more options to become available. When you have to shell out $6 for a dozen shiners (or $$$ for boats, tow vehicle, etc.), a few more cents for tin shot isn't that big a deal. As time goes by and interest in alternatives grow, I expect more options at a more competitive prices. However, since wholesale bismuth, tin and other alternative metals are more expensive than lead, non-lead tackle will always probably be slightly more expensive.

Currently, Gander Mountain has been carrying an assortment of non-lead weights in their stores, although inventory is getting picked over. For jigs and other lures, the best bet for now is online. The following HSOforum lists numerous websites where non-lead tackle can be obtained directly from the manufacturers:
