What an airhead Chilly is. He just started to make me a believer in him and then he reverted back to the bonehead he really is. We the great Minnesota Vikings are no closer to having the most important position on our team filled than we were 4 years ago. Favre is only a temporary bandaid and he might need some bandaids before the season is over, and then it is over for us too!!!! We are known as the Old Folks home for quaterbacks though so I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Bad way to try to sell us on a new stadium. I feel for TJ being put in this position by Chilly. Way over his head and not his fault.

Anyone, I mean anyone who is shocked or boggled over this does not know how football works. After running back up to the back up again this season, Sage would have been worth nothing. When do you sell an old beater car? When it is running good or when it is just yard art? Anyone who thinks Chilly loves T-Jack more than the game is nuts (08' ). Went over all this in the T-Jack thread already. No need to go over it again.

Just get ready for the last couple seasons we have the Vikings.

Vikes blew a great opportunity this year in passing on Clausen IMO...from all sources, he was ready to go out of the shoot and he hasn't disappointed so far this pre-season. A year under Favre would have been great for the kid.

Shack...just because the Vikes would have had Sage at #3 doesn't decrease his value around the league....each team would have done their own evaluation on the guy and they clearly would have had a better grade on him than say, TJack. If Sage was not going to be a member of the 53 man roster regardless...then I'm glad they at least got something for him when they did.

Yes I would...but by the reports coming from the NFL network and others he had a really good camp and is set at the #2 q-back spot.

He's probably not ready to start just yet but I bet it won't be long in Carolina.

Zep, I agree, but would hold true for someone in their mid-late 20's and has "some" regular season field time in (let's thinking from a year from now) say the last 2-3 years. Sage has almost no time and is approaching his mid 30's. He had a good showing during pre-season and they played off that to get something for him. He is at that point in his carrier where (IMO) the Vikes, and Sage himself, can not afford to have him as a third string back-up not seeing any season play. I feel one more season of this would have dropped his value huge. Maybe to point of hanging up his jersey?

At least he is going to a team as the true back-up and maybe can add some stats to his carrier now before he gets hurt or retires?

IMO it comes down to health first, but then resent Pro NFL stats take precedence:

Hypothetically, not having much knowledge of the past other than the above & amount of field time, age, and current training camp and pre-season info, realistically which one would an NFL team decide to keep or want for their backup QB? Which one "should" they choose to waive, cut, or trade if the roster countdown has come to the end and both are healthy? If you pull yourself away from opinions formed and emotion that has been had, it is a clear choice. Really no shocker IMO.

Yeah, Yeah, you guys hate Jackson. I know, I know. For me, there has not been enough presented to form any like or hate with the guy. I think he has had a bum ride that has not stopped, but what do you do when Favre wants to play?

It's simple, you keep the QB that gives your playoff caliber team the best chance to win if your starter goes down. That isn't Junkson, I feel bad for anyone that thinks he's a franchise QB.

Actually if you look at Jacksons 2008 stats and compare them to Sage's 2007, Sage had a good year.

I am starting to think Ziggy is wanting the move to LA. Our state does not have it together enough financially to host a decent franchise, much less the Vikings. I also think the MN Vikings fans base is following suit. Forbes recently just said this pretty much and I think the move is more reality now, then it has ever been. Maybe Minnesota's procrastinating nature will kick in at the last minute? I am not even sure a good season this year could help this.

Shack, I think you are wromg when you state people hate Jackson. They just simply believe he does not have it to be a good QB.

What do you do when Farve wants to play, play him, that also is a no brainer. If Jackson was good enopugh, we would not be trying to get Farve for another season or some one else.

Some people still don't get how big of a mistake Junkson really is. We moved up to take him in the 2nd round when he was a projected 5th round pick, Chilly took heat for it then and he explained how Junkson was gonna be our future (puke face).

What is this Junksons 5th year now? Some people still claim they haven't seen enough of the guy? All you hear is how he's getting better, I hope so you can't get any worse, saying someone might be getting better means nothing when your beyond junk. He's not even playing at a level rookies play yet to this day.

Who moves up in the 2nd round for a projected 5th round QB to be a career backup? Chilly has issues putting his career on the line riding and dying with the Junkmeister!!

TJack was Chilly's pick...plain and simple. Studwell does not pick anyone in the draft...he accumulates information on players to be evaluated by the entire staff at a later point.

I agree FG...it's no shame to have moved up and picked TJack where he did. The mistake is his unwillingness to let the guy go....

Yahoo ranked the NFL coaches- Childress came in at #14. Thats horrible considering how they almost went to the Super Bowl last season. But when you think about it- Spielmans made the moves that almost got us there, Chillys made a huge blunder taking TJack in the draft-

The Minnesota Vikings traded away their only real insurance at the game's most important position Friday night, a reckless and vindictive move that indisputably weakened the team in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety on the depth chart.

Sage Rosenfels was traded even though he was Minnesota's best backup at quarterback.

I haven't always praised Sage Rosenfels during his two year-career with the Vikings, but this preseason he proved to be the Vikings' only competent backup behind Brett Favre. He far outperformed Tarvaris Jackson, who apparently has a tenured position unaffected by his performance. What anyone wouldn't give for the kind of job security he has.

Let's be perfectly clear: Rosenfels was traded Friday night to the New York Giants because he beat out Jackson for the No. 2 job. As crazy as it sounds, that's what happened. The problem was that coach Brad Childress long ago chose Jackson as his No. 2 quarterback and still hasn't given up on his prospects as a long-term starter. Childress never embraced Rosenfels' acquisition in March 2009, a move orchestrated not by him but by vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman, and inexplicably banished him to the bottom of the depth chart.

Rosenfels hasn't always practiced well, but his 111.7 passer rating this preseason was more than twice that of Jackson. But no matter how sloppy and inaccurate Jackson was, nothing would change Childress' mind. He said last week that he had seen what he needed to see in practice, and my understanding is he made it clear within the organization that under no circumstances would Rosenfels make the final 53-man roster.

Instead, the Vikings seem poised to keep rookie Joe Webb as their No. 3. Webb showed flashes of elite athleticism during the preseason but is in no way capable of taking over an NFL team with playoff aspirations. It's fair to wonder the same about Jackson, but trading Rosenfels allowed the organization to get some level of return -- one draft pick in 2011 and perhaps a conditional pick in 2012 -- and eliminate the uncomfortable dynamic of an upside-down depth chart.

Favre hasn't missed a start in 19 years, so much of this conversation could be moot. But trading away players because they outperformed underachieving (but favored) incumbents is no way to build a team. At least, not in my book.

Note: Surprisingly, the trade also sent kick returner/running back Darius Reynaud to the Giants. I wonder if that means Percy Harvin will resume his role as a kickoff returner. I have no idea who will return punts, although cornerback Asher Allen did get some work there in the preseason.

How is trading the better of the 2 QB's away a good thing? There is no doubt that this vikings team would have been in better hands in the case of a Favre injury with Sage at QB than junkson. There is a reason that Chilly put the kabosh on answering those backup QB questions. Everyone wants to know what the reasoning is for this trade because its clear who the team was better off with. If junkson was the better option he wouldnt spend whole press conferences having to answer to this question because people wouldnt be asking the question!

Neither Sage or TJack are/were the q-backs of the future of this team...wait until he starts fielding questions about next years q-back prospects for our team and why he didn't adress this problem long ago. It's going to get messy around VikingVille if Favre goes down this year...Chilly's head may explode!

Right on Zepman. Neither are the quarterback of the future. That title belongs to Joe Webb at the moment, so I guess the argument right now is about who will help the Vikings more if Favre unexpectedly leaves the game.

this is the first time (and understandably) in vikings history since tarkenton, that minnesota fans didn't think the second string quarterback, shouldn't be the starter.
