Age This Buck.

Recommended Posts

3 1/2 130's. Good mass but not enough height, width, or symetry to score above 139. It'd be nice to give him another year. Even if he's 4 1/2, as most guess him to be, he won't be smaller next year. When you get him let us know what the tape comes out to.

Based on the way he's going a little wacky I don't think, and it's just my opinion, that he'll even out, or get much bigger. He's pretty darn big as he is. I'd bet he'll pretty easily score over 140, and that's a nice buck in anyone's book.

I'm still leaning toward 4.5.

Let him walk and you may never see him again. He's a good buck. Although they do look a little boney, heck, I'd put his brother there in the freezer.

I'm also saying 3.5 years old and about 140. A great deer for sure and I'd be happy to take him ...... but you have to realize he's in velvet now and the antlers will look smaller when they harden off. It's very cool that you have so many photos of him, and in daylight too! The deer I hunt seem to be afraid of the sun laugh

I think the velvet earlier in the summer can sometimes be misleading when things are growing, these pics were mid August so a lot of growing is done by then and the bone is starting to harden and things are tightening up a little bit. Hopefully we can see some after velvet pics to get a better idea but I am guessing this guy will still have some serious mass on his beams.

We have all seen pics of bucks losing their velvet, its not like its a quarter inch thick or anything.

I think both Hockey and Bear55 make a really good point here. This buck hasn't necessarily maxed out yet. When he starts ruttin' his body's gonna look a lot different. He may gain a tad more antler. Heck, when he starts scraping off that velvet he's gonna bulk up that neck and front quarters. I'm going back to 4 1/2.

If you let him live that long!!! wink
