PierBridge
Magic,Where did you get the coupon book? You can get them at Fair. They were $4 before the fair but $5 now I do believe.
Wookiee
You are correct pb. Go to the fair once every ten years just to remind myself why I don't like the crowds, heat, and prices.

harvey lee
I thought the coupon book was a joke.I used one for a scone and it was suppose to be a $1 off. Nope, you got a free pop. Then we went to the cotton candy booth for my wife and that also was a dollar off. Then they told her that it was only good for the cotton candy on a stick and not on a whole bag.Seems they had way to many excuses to not do the discount the way it was advertised.Never again will I waste $5 on that. It may be ok if one just went there to eat.Sure seemd like the Pickle joint was very busy as I walkes by it 3-4 times.
Shack
Well, I ate today. Thanks to the push after reading this thread, my kids and I had a good time today at the State Fair. Camel on a stick from the Bazaar started things off and was great. Then some bacon curley fries covered in cheese sause from the stand next to the big slide $4.00 was huge and a 12" corn dog also. Had to have the deep fried alligator by the Grandstand also. That was very good. Had the chicken on stick (tasted my sons) chicken & steak kabobs. Then before we hit the road, had enough left to get a great slice of pizza for $2.00 right outside the Midway and then of course, the last thing on a stick of the night was none other than: My wife had to work and this one I brought home for her so it is about an hour & half old, but still looks good. Best deal I found was buying the Fair purple bottle that all the food booths refill for $2.00. It is like a liter and a half and beets paying $5+ for refills of pop. We refilled 4 times and each drank off it. $8 is better than $20. I think many places were out, but outside the Food building they had them for $4 which includes the first fill. Worth carrying around IMO. Did not stop for and cookies thanks to the posts in here. I did not buy the Blue Ribbon coupon book (sold at the fair still & at the discount booth), but a young lady was kind enough to give me a coupon out of the book to buy a bucket of taffy for my mom. The bucket was $12 and the coupon was for $4.00 off, but she did say she had a very hard time using the 2 coupons that she used from the book. Pretty much what HL said. Parking $8.00 right out of the West entrance on the UofM IMO was worth saving the $2.00 from parking in the fair. You can take a bus from Rosedale and park and ride for free also. Snelling Ave parking was $20.00 Spent about a $100 and went for the first time in 15 years (20 years since I last went in depth as we did today.) and it was my kids first time ever. They had a blast and well worth the $100+. To top the night, thought we saw Gene Simmons, but a very good impersonator walking out in front of the grand stand. Then lived the fun of the evening to Kiss music. Pretty darn good still and played for (not kidding) around 3 hours. Long live Kiss.
MuleShack
We looked at those coupon books when we entered the fair. To me it seemed like you would spend 1/2 hour finding what you wanted out of it and then spending another 1/2 hour finding the place to use it. Didn't waste the money on it.The Beef Roast sundae was pretty good IMO.
Shack
Mule I got my chops next to the RBS stand. Just could not do it, but had time for some chops. I had heard they were the bomb though. I did that Seinfeld Newman thing the three times my ankles were crushed by strollers, but I said "Dtro" instead. Forgot that. My kids got tha ankle crush a couple times also. MuleShack
I heard that Saturday they had 230,000+ people out there...had to be shoulder to shoulder. We went on Friday and it was the best fair experience I ever had...cool and windy and not a ton of people...and best of all the lines were really non existent. nofishfisherman
We went for the first time in 10 years this year. Happened to go on Saturday with 230,000 other people so it was crowded but still had a good time. Here is the list of food we had.Pot roast sundae - pretty good but not greatFrench fries - 32 oz, always goodKey lime pie on a stick - frozen and covered in chocolate - not my thingCheese Curds - again always goodfoot long walleye sandwich - really good and not bad priced at $7.Deep fried alligator and hush puppies - very tasty. A little like calamari.Deep fried snickers - I was skeptical but it was awesomeSausage sampler - 3 different kinds of sausage with onions and peppers, really good and a lot of food for $6Mini donuts - I can't go to any fair without getting them, they are so good.I think that covers it. Hopefully I walked enough that day to walk it all off.
deerminator
I would agree. Try eating Sweet Martha's cookies cold and its like putrid lard and grease in my opinion. Not exactly a quality chocolate chip cookie. I've always said the sign of a good one is if it tastes better cold than hot. But most of the deep fried stuff there is the same way. They've got you over a barrel though. People just buy them without thinking, just like a $7.50 beer at the Twins game. I've always been a fan of the deep fried turkey sandwich (nothing on it), though it's a bit overpriced for the amount you get.
Born2Fish
We tried quite a bit this year. Found a few great and a few not so great. For the first time I tried one of those deep fried snickers...I will not be doing that again. Not a good treat! Had about 3 pronto pups(obviously good!). I tried a footlong chicken chipotle pizza on a stick from green mill. That was probably my favorite food there this year. Of course like everyone else, we had cheese curds, french fries and doughnuts. We did buy a SMALL marthas cookies cone, but I did not eat any. We got them for her sister. I can't imagine paying 15 bucks for a bucket of cookies either. Seems like a waste of money. We actually did get the coupon book this year from cub(we payed 4 dollars), and ended up getting back what we payed in discounts. Though we had MANY unused coupons that we gave away.
