Harvin

The Percy Harvin situation continues to grow more odd by the day.

The Vikings received a roster exemption for Harvin on Thursday and as part of the process sent the wide receiver what is known as a five-day letter. Harvin hasn’t been with the team since July 31 when he left Mankato after the death of his grandmother.

The purpose of the letter is to warn a player that in five days the team has the right to place him on the reserve/left the squad list. If Harvin was put on that list -- the Vikings are NOT obligated to place him on it after five days -- he would not be able to play again this season. Vikings coach Brad Childress explained in a text message Friday that in order to get the exemption the five-day letter had to be sent. Childress also reiterated, as he has throughout this process, that the team is being "supportive" of Harvin.

Nonetheless, the fact the Vikings had to take this step indicates Harvin might not be back anytime soon. Childress said this week that Harvin’s absence had continued because last season's NFL offensive roookie of the year was again dealing with migraine headaches. Harvin has been at his home in the Twin Cities.

Harvin had migraine headaches on several occasions last season and even missed one game. None of his migraines lasted long enough to keep him away from the team for the amount of time he has been missing in recent weeks.

As he did Friday, Childress has attempted to show patience with Harvin in his comments and admitted he has no idea when the second-year player will return. Harvin’s agent, Joel Segal, has declined to comment.

The Vikings will open the preseason on Saturday night in St. Louis and clearly Harvin won’t be with the team. The Vikings did not make an immediate roster move to replace Harvin.

I think Percy gets a "headache" whenever he returns home to see family and friends...he then needs to stay away from camp awhile to let his system rid itself of anything that might show up on a pee test.

Honestly though...this is an odd situation that just doesn't "feel" right. Hope he gets his butt into camp soon.

I've read the idea of Harvin staying home to avoid a drug test on a few other forums as well.

I think the league can demand a test for a player at any time if I remember correctly. The player can be called and told to report to a specified testing facility and if they don't show up its the same as a positive test. It doesn't matter if you are in training camp or sitting at home playing X-Box you can still be tested.

Bust? Seriously? The guy just finished his rookie season. How did he do? Well, better than any other offensive rookie. How soon we forger the Rookie of the Year award he won last year.

Don't feed the trolls!

What good is he if you never know if he is going to play on a week to week basis? How can you depend on a guy like that? And to add more to that, he already missed pretty much all of training camp this year!

Until he starts showing up every week then it remains that he was a bad draft choice, especially since they knew of his issues prior to the draft.

Well, they've drafted quite a few bargains that fell a round or two for one reason or the other. At least one made his presence felt once or twice. You'd hope the supercoach could whip them all into shape!

I'm more depressed about the qb situation. I watch the cowboys preseason and the backup is former starting qb john kitna! In the ravens game, it's mark bulger! sigh

Lmit's just mad because the Lions can only make a decent pick in the draft once every 3 years!!!

How can you argue with Harvin's game day presence. He changes games, whether it is on the offensive side of the ball, or on special teams, he is a beast. Who cares if he misses training camp?

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
