muskieboy46
My C3 7000 has broken down for the 3rd time and my c3 5600 for the second so i'm looking to upgrade. I'm sick of these two reels. I have two ideas on how to do this.1) buy two, relatively cheap reels, to replace these. I was looking at the Cardiff and the Saltist.2) buy one, more expensive reel, that can handle both dawgs, cowgirls, and smaller stuff. I was thinking one of the Revo's might be a good bet.Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks,Trevor
50inchpig
personally, i'd buy two saltists, not a bait made i can't throw with mine, but my buddies with revos like them quite a bit. do you have two rods?
Nick Kuhn
If you are patient and shop around Revo's aren't too expensive. My Revo Toro 61 should be arriving tomorrow, $157 shipped. Didn't even qualify for the free sunglasses...
JimBuck
Revos and Saltists are both great reels in your rang. Shop around and find a bargain.

Esox_Magnum
I have been running a Revo Toro 60 since spring 09 for DCG's and still flawless after 140 trips. A few more that have stood the test of time for me, Shimano Curado 300 DSV, Okuma Induron 400IDX ( discontinued replaced with the Akeena 400), Shimano Corsairs and Calcutta B's. Watch the classifides I'm posting a few reels here soon....
smeese
Calcutta B's huh? Guess I just figured the bottom end was just that, but I have heard this alot lately so maybe one is in the stars for my future.
Esox_Magnum
I have a partner that can break an anvil with a rubber hammer, so far the Calcutta B is the only reels he hasn't destroyed...I loaned him one of my Indurons once and he broke it in less than a day.... I run a Corsair on 1 rod I got used 6 years ago and it's never failed me yet and I do nothing to my reels other than use them.....
kingfish689
I have a 301 corsair and a calcutta 400b the corsair has bin discontinued but I would buy either one again If i needed a new reel. never had a problem with them
Tim_Anderson
Shimano 700TE if you like to burn big blades or throw heavy baits.Shimano 400TE for all around use though it seems slightly undersized for burning double tens or thirteens. I play it safe with reels now, especially the expensive ones. Have learned plenty of lessons over the years, and have not broken a reel now in quite a while.Shimano Curado 300E for burning small to medium blades, and for slow rolling big blades at night.Used a saltist for the first time the other night. Seems like a good reel, but I have no experience with them as to their longevity. I can vouch for the Shimano's though. They are spendy but well worth it to me.I don't have a Toro, but I do have one of the Revo's that's a low profile bass sized reel. Have caught a whole bunch of muskies on it, and enjoy the heck out of it.Best advice I can give is to match your bait size AND your fishing style to the reel. muskieboy46
Thanks for the advice everyone. I went out and bought a saltist 20 levelwind today. Hope to get some use out of it this week.I do have two rods. I'm currently taking apart the 7000 to see if I can repair it myself so my dad can have a bigger lure reel. After catching two fish on a bulldawg he doesn't think they are so heavy lol.Trevor
muskieboy46
So far I have really enjoyed the Saltist. Got my first muskie on it tonight and it worked great. 49incher.Trevor
nater
You will love your saltist the only thing I heard about them is the release spring will fail if you use them like a guide, so eventually. I got mine a couple weeks ago to replace the old trusty 7000 for some speed. So far, its awesome only hauled in a nice fat pike on a dawg but love the reel for its versatility. Sure its a bit harder bringing in big blades at high speed but you don't have to crank mach 3, but then again who says muskie fishing is easy?? muskieboy46
I've taken it apart and am trying to fix it. I so far have made it "usable". But the lever doesn't lock 90% of the time when you try to cast.
