This is my promise for 2003. Whenever I am getting close to the boat ramp I will remember that there will be people there who are less fortunate than me that don't know how to load/unload their boat. I will enter a Zen like trance and be calm and be patient, I'll remember my time on the water will be perfect and the &%%&**&%$$$ people at the ramps (oops I slipped out of it) are really nice people. The In-Fisherman crew from two years ago who untarped their boat while blocking the landing will be out of my consciousness (that's going to be hard) even though they also loaded their camera and rods when they had plenty of time to do it beforehand (really hard)....Wish me luck, patience to you too!!!

relax man. it's just a bunch of water, and fish. you are good, you can catch them any time smile.gif it's just one big blue marble, and not every one is as perfect as ourselves. be kind, and respectful, helpful if given the opportunity. some body just may return your kindness, and leniency. and if they are outright rude...kick em' in the sack smile.gif

I wish you serenity!
I offer to help. This not only keeps my positive energy going, but also may teach them something, teach my kids something, teach their kids something, and gets 'em the heck out of the way quicker!

We've all been "that guy".

Hard to believe a supposedly knowledgable crew like In-Fisherman would do something so stupid and rude. If I was there, I think I would have taken jigglestick's advice and done some sack booting. As a matter of fact, I think I'll approach most landings this season with jigglestick's advice in mind- let me make this announcement...
Sacks beware- if I'm forced to wait for any stupid things or people at the landings, you'll be meeting the top of my #11 boot!

I suppose this isn't helping you at all, is it leechlake? Ok, ok, I'll try find a mantra, sip on some tea, and bring along some aromatherapy candles to each and every landing I go to this summer.

To expect neophytes, people with antiquted equipment, or just adaquately functional equipment, to behave like a seasoned pro, is simply not logical. The nerve and pompasity of those who always expect perfection in an imperfect world are idiots. If, while unloading my boat into the water, I had a problem and noticed someone with a fancy five figure $ rig getting ancy and impatient, or even worse started to verbally put me down or rush me, well, that would be more than enough motivation for me to go even slower. Have patience and practice good manners. Aquaman has it right, help those who need it!

Ah yes, I feel the mojo working now.....if only I can keep it going through the opener. Lat year on Mille Lacs I had a guy back is boat into mine (yes I have a 5 figure boat)while I was getting the truck and trailer. He left me a little dent to remind me too. I had the wife with and now she thinks everyone is like that. Had a little boy with him too, good thing to teach your son. **** shame. All I have to do is remember the late Fall fishing trips when there is hardly anyone going out anymore and the Walleyes are huge. I forgive you, MR. outa my way I own the lake fella.

I think everyone has had some problems getting the boat started and out of the way; or a hard time getting the boat on the trailer because of wind or something and held up the show. But those people who get lined up to the launch and then start untarping and loading the boat with gear really need to get some lessons in common courtesy.

I will be the first to help someone who is struggling with a problem, but patience with inconsiderate people is not my strong suit.

Sheeeesh! I was hoping to get a boat sometime this summer. I'd have to learn (from scratch) how to operate it, dump it, trailer it, everything. After reading these posts I'm more afraid than I was!!! lol

I'll just have to take one of you "perfect professionals" with me when I go!!!

To clarify I just meant we need to be courteous, I helped a guy the other day and he helped me after 'cause I was alone. Worked out great for both of us. Good luck to all I was trying to have fun, not irritate.

I like that term "Ramp Ramp", It is so true on metro lakes at times.

last year on opener I put my boat on the lake only to find a mouse nest in my motor once I got out a ways. Paddled myself back in to the landing and here was this family who borrowed someone's boat, parked up next to the dock on the ramp side, truck and trailer still in the water. This is about 8:00 p.m. on opener night. Granted the landing wasnt that busy but as if my motor problem wasnt enough, I had to help these people rewire their boat (they clearly had no idea what the heck was going on) as they chatted on thier cell phones. it took what seemed to be hours but I kept my cool despite normally having a quick temper and got their boat running but had to scramble like hell to get another motor to use for the night.

That's my Ramp Rage story

Didn't catch a single fish all night either.

This year I'm graduating from a 16' boat on a crappy old trailer to a new 18' boat on a 3100# roller trailer. I was fairly speedy with my old setup, but am a little nervous with the new rig. I've never (successfully) drove my old boat on the trailer because it was sort of crooked. Anyone know of a HSOforum or have advice for efficient loading?

Try backing in so the rollers are just under the water, drive the boat up as far as you can and crank it up the rest of the way. It usually goes on straight since the boat doesnt float around over the trailer in the water unless its really windy. Or put those poles on the back end of the trailer to help line it up straight when you get in close and cant actually see the trailer. Remember to trim up the motor too once you get in shallow and especially before you pull the boat out. Nothing be nervous about though, just don't let the guys on this forum intimidate ya. It goes a lot better with two people too, especailly with a bigger boat.

Just a thought - but why is everyone in such a hurry that they have "ramp rage"? We are suppose to be out relaxing and enjoying the beautful day. Then we get to the ramp and get all upset because it takes a novice 5-10 minutes more than we think it should. I know I am guilty of it also, but I really try to control it. One of the first times we took our boat out this little tough old lady chewed out two boys royally because they could not back their trailer correctly that I decided that there was no way I was ever going to act like that. And sometimes things are going on that you can not see. Like on the Pelican ramp - in order to get our boat on we have to back up to the very end of the ramp and then one wheel is lower than the other one and on a bad day we have a heck of a time getting it loaded straight. I am sure people think we are really stupid but there is not much we can do about it.

So just hang loose. Life is too short to have a heart attack over getting on the lake 10 minutes later and besides you might just get a really good "ramp story" to tell all of us on the site! Just hang loose! grin.gif

My worst ramp experience. I was trying to get my boat out on Vermilion, and here was this guy and his wife loading up their gear. They are in the middle of two, not one, two launch pads tying them both up. They are nonchanlauntly loading up the rods, the gas, the coolers, the bait, and food. They must have taken a good five minutes(felt like a 1/2 hour) to just load up the gear not including launching the dang boat. I was steaming, I could not believe how &@#%ing rude these people were, and since there a couple other people waiting behind me, I didn't want to embarrass myself by laying into them. One of the guys behind me got out his truck and meandered down to see what was taking so long and just walked back shaking his head and rolling his eyes.

If you are new to boating be considerate of the other people waiting to get out there. Get you stuff together before you get up to the launch pad. Most people will stand on their head to help if you are having problems, but that kind behavior just pi$$es people off.
