okay so i have been landing bass at coon lake and i have landed a 18 inch 3 pound bass and some 16-18 inch 2 1/2 pounders but at blaine club west pond i have landed like 10-14 inch bass at 1-2 almost 3 pounds.... the bass in the ponds are way fatter and put up a better fight than at coon lake. what are the possible reasons for this? the pond i fish is stocked with pikes, buffalo, carp, crappies, sunnies, walleye fry and it contains bass the dnr site dosnt have any info about the bass stocking but they are in there im not sure how many but i have landed a few only (about 4-6 bass in just 3 days) fishing it thursday friday and today, sunday during this crappy rainy week and fishing for about an averege of 2-3 hours only... is there bigger bass in the blaine club west ponds and if so were? how much bass are there and would i catch more on a better sunny/semi sunny day rather than the [PoorWordUsage] we had this week?

guys wats not to understand im asking about the ponds in blaine minnesota and the park that is around the ponds is called CLUB WEST. Im asking why are the bass heavier there but smaller in length than at coon lake minnesota were the bass there have to be around the 16-18 inch mark just to weigh 2 pounds and the Club West pond bass are around 10-14 inches in length and already weighs 1-2 pounds almost even 3 pounds. also im asking if there is bigger fish in the ponds and if so were and what should i be throwing out there besides what i have been throwing wich is a T-rigged beaver (no success just one nibble) a topwater frog (no success) and a wackyworm (caught all of my 4-6 bass at the pond with this).

Natures Respect, i would guess they may have a better forage base but who knows it would be hard to figure out exactly why they are larger. I also think most people have not fished here and that is why you haven't gotten the response you are looking for, but that being said i would keep doin what your doin and experiment with different lures and experiment with different depths. Good Luck

A 14 inch bass should be a bit under two pounds for the most part. For a 14 incher to be "almost" three pounds doesn't make sense regardless of lake conditions for cover, forage, etc... If I remember right the formula for estimating weight of a bass is along the lines of length x length x girth then divided by 1200. Its only an estimate but will give you an idea of weight.

Largemouth Bass:

WEIGHT = LENGTH x GIRTH² / SHAPE FACTOR

WEIGHT= 14 x (15²) / 1050

WEIGHT= 14 x 3150 / 1050

WEIGHT= 3150 / 1050

WEIGHT = 3 pounds

Based on that a 14 inch fish would need a 15 in girth to hit 3lbs, Also as an FYI the "shape factor" on a smallmouth is 1100.

okay 3 pounds may be exagerated but really tho the bass there are fat and fight way harder than coon lake i mean really at coon lake it takes a 18 inch bass just to hit the 2 pound mark but at Club West the bass are small like 14 inches and has no problem hitting 2 pounds and maybe a bit over i am just shocked that this whole time im lookin to catch big bass and getting 2 pounds was exciting for me when i was fishing coon lake hard until i tried the ponds at Club West and 2 pounds was averege over there..... any ideas if there would be bigger fish in the ponds and were i would find them?

I am guessing its a forage base thing, the bass in the ponds are probably feeding on a lot of small gills and frogs, they probably are young yet to because I am assuming these ponds are not that old. Coon lake bass see a fair amount of pressure and might not have the forage base.

One thing you might be overlooking also is the pond bass might have never spawned and are still holding eggs, coon lake bass have already spawned and this is there skinniest time of year

actually the pond has been there for as long as i can remember i can remember like 5 years back they were there. and i think if the bass were holding eggs they would be alot bigger than 10-14 inches i think what i have been catching were fat males.... if they have not spawned they will never its already summer! im not sure what to say about this place anymore except that i will have to keep fishing it.... not much people fish there anyways so big bass are opt to be there plus the ponds have huge bowfins and carps like buffalos!
