I would like to know if people are taking week long vacations like past years or you taking shorter 3-4 day trips. Why i am asking i have a resort and have offered my remaining June weekely openings at 50% off and have not seen much of a response. Thanks for the feed back.

I do mainly 3-4 day trips due to my wife's limited vacation time, or so she is not stuck at home for extended durations watching the kid/dogs on weekends like opener. Just booked a 4 day trip to Leech for the family for July 4th weekend! Also, depending on the rates of the cabins a full week can add up in price fairly quickly vs 3-4 days.

We have been taking partial weeks here and there over the past few years. Try to find some place that may have a cabin someone took for a 3 day weekend, we take it the rest of the week.

We typically have been taking the week long vacation, but this year we have only been able to do the shorter trips due to schedules this summer.

It is still a pretty affordable vacation to go to a resort, but overall the vacation habits of people are changing. Golf, spectator sports, and other things are surely supplanting the traditional lake vacation.

I've always said for the past few years that resorts need to change the way they book. Many families now are looking for shorter weeks. I know this can be a tough industry but having week long stays is becoming difficult. Also, as it was mentioned before, prices play a big part and what you have to offer for amenities/activities on the grounds. Right now I am at a resort in Park Rapids and I have to say it is one of the best I've stayed at. What they offer for amenities and how well kept the grounds and cabins are is top notch. I've talked to some of the people staying here, from out of state, and they've been coming here for years. A big part is how nice everything is. Believe me, for them to drop thousands of dollars to rent several cabins each year speaks for itself. The other part is how good the fishing is on the lake you are on and the availability of other lakes close by. I've stayed at many resorts and basically you get what you pay for. As an example, I've seen cabins that are full of cob webs on the exterior siding. This tells me they don't care about appearance/cleanliness. A suggestion is to ask your guests to fill out comment cards on their stay and ask what them what you could do to improve and would they consider coming back. Visit other resorts and compare what you have to what they have and see how they do in re-bookings. I suppose you could look online too, but seeing in person can bring a different perspective. Continue to advertise. Sorry if this is off what you were aking about, but hope it helps.

We always go for a week, but it's mostly for the family's benefit - I'd rather go on two 4-day trips. The solution is to change a week to two or three workdays plus Sat & Sun. Write your congressmen.

I'm finally going on a week-long Canadian fishing trip this year, but that's a rare vacation in any year. We don't even have kids but find it hard to take week-long trips. We get much more satisfaction out of the extended weekend trips because we can do six or seven of them spread out versus one week-long vacation.

I have 3 kids and with the activities during the week it is hard to get a full week off. We plan on going to Itasca for a 4 day long weekend. The 3-4 day vacations seem to be the only thing we can get to work any more. This has worked for us for the past several years and we will continue it.
