09 Chevy 1500 crew cab, 10,000 miles. So we are at the cabin this past weekend and everyone gets out and shuts the doors and we start unpacking the truck and the horn hinks once and the darn thing locks up on us with the keys in the ignition. Anyone have any problems with the doors locking automatically without them initiating it? My parents have a Denali and have had to call onstar 5 times due to the truck autolocking on its own. Is this common?

Don't GM's automatically lock with the keys in the ignition after a certain amount of time as an "anit-theft"?

Have you unwrapped the owners manual and checked to see if there is an option that allows you to disable it?

My doors will lock on their own at times when I shut the door. I was told there is a body module for this.

I simply pull the keys everytime I get out and have an extra plastic one in my billfold and another hidden in the truck just incase it happens and I leave the keys in the truck.

The Chev dealer also told me it could me in the door with something that could stick. They checked that and it was not that.

How about taking the keys out of the ignition when you get out and see if that stops it.
That seems like a pain! You have to take the keys with you EVERY TIME you leave the vehicle?

So this "anti-theft" would stop a thief from busting a window out and taking the vehicle that has the keys dangling in the ignition? Sounds dumb

I have an 08 and so far mine has never locked itself and I rarely take the keys out. I'm guessing the lock button is getting bumped accidentally, maybe not by you but your passenger? There is a settable delay for hitting the lock button, if I hit my (driver's side) lock button once it takes a few seconds for it to lock, hit it twice it locks instantly. Look in the book, it's adjustable through the DIC. I've never heard of this being issue even on the GM truck forums.

If you hit the lock button and the key is still in the ignition it won't lock.

Yes, but a lot of people will pull the key out just far enough to stop the "dinging". This will allow you to accidentally lock your keys in. Had to do some door unlocks just for this reason.

I locked myself out this way, luckily a buddy had a set of tools to get me opened back up.

My 03 malibu has just started doing this recently. I leave the keys in it, partly pulled out, and it dings 3 times and locks, has done it 3 times on me. At the same time now the thing honks at me when I lock it with the fob. Did not do this for 3 years, junk.

To my knowledge, nobody hit the locks on the way out of the truck. The keys were in it not pulled out to stop the dinging. We shut all 4 doors to keep the bugs out while we offloaded gear into the cabin. Didn't take the keys out because after unloading I was going to repark the truck. We all probably looked pretty funny standing there looking at the truck with our mouths hanging open just after it locked by itself rpobably 2-3 minutes after getting out shocked I do make it a point to take the keys out everytime I get out of the truck when going in for fuel and such. As far as looking in the manual, none came with the truck and I have asked the dealer twice for the manual which they said they were going to send to me. 2 months and no manual so I'll have to call them and/or stop by and pee in their coffee for a bit to get myself one. Thanks for the replies, I got a spare set of keys hidden now just in case.

My 07 GMC Sierra has a feature that when you push the lock button on the door the locks do not lock until all the doors are closed and approximaely 10 seconds goes by. It gives you a window to open the door if you happen to need to get back in the vehicle.

I found out the hard way on the middle of Leech Lake that the doors can be locked with the keys fully into the ignition. There is a lockssmith that will drive out on Leech to open the doors for you!

My 2004 Silverado has a setting that the doors will automatically lock when all are closed. I think the length of time is adjustable through the DIC. Luckily when it did this at a boat landing, I always put the window half way down, just in case. I then inactivated this "feature".
