Good luck to everyone.

I'm sure Deitz will be rubbing it in our faces on Tuesday.

"Tough opener in the Chisago area. The conditions seemed ripe but we only caught 86 in three hours between the two of us, things should pick up soon though." DD

LMAO @ Juan---You know me too well..Things should be good.. but like Ray Esboldt.. I hate fishing this time of the year.. its all about covering water. Really not a ton about patterns.. but it could be great.. cold front to hit on sunday night... but it will be in the boat..

and there may be 3 in my boat saturday morning.

Juan... your going to hate me.. fishing was not tough.. was pretty easy actually.. I was confused though.. Water temp was 73-75 degrees... AND STILL WERE PRE-SPAWN.. .not sure if I saw a fish on a bed in the lake I fished. I may have caught one female that had dropped her eggs, all the others were still full up. Waiting on points to go into spawning areas.. Unless they just are not going to spawn?.. Which is possible I guess.. anyway.. 3 of us in a boat.. 142 fish and left the lake before noon.

We had an awesome opener also. 2 of us, 78 bass by 12:30. Not sure how many pike, but biggest one was 33 inches, plus we each bagged a bonus walleye. Mine was just a tad over 4 and my partners was 6-11 on the digital scale. Biggest bass was 4-12, the majority of the fish in the mid two's to low threes. Majority of our fish were still pre-spawn. Large bay, 4-6 feet of water. I don't even want to talk about the one I dropped right at the boat, partner was just getting ready to lip it for me, he reached, just as he touched the mouth it shut and one last shake it came unbuttoned.

Then it layed there for that long second before it jusr sunk out of sight. Should have yelled " Grab the net".

How do you know they were still prespawn?

I fished two lake yesterday one had water temps in the low 70s and sunnies on beds. Sunnies spawn after bass correct? We did horrible on this lake figured the fish were just coming off the spawn and hadnt began feeding. The next lake was much smaller and had water temps pushing well into the upper 70s and the bass were feeding well. I figured the second lake was a week or two ahead and the fish were becoming active after the post spawn doldrums.

I agree, that is very interesting Deitz. The lake I was on today in the metro seemed to have all stages of fish, but the majority were done spawning. I was surprised on how far along things are this year compared to other years; at least on the lake I was on. It always seems that the first full moon in june brings the final wave of spawners up shallow, but I hardly found any on beds today. Saw fry up shallow and had my best luck with deep crankbaits offshore...

fished a different lake today.. for sure post spawn.. interestingly.. the two lakes I fished were within 15 miles of each other. Tried to find some big post spawn girls found 5-6 that were good fish, managed another 15 smaller ones.. and a bonus limit of walleye.. MMMMmmmMMm fresh walleye for dinner.

Hey grab the net,

Were you fishin a lake up in your "neck of the woods" on saturday? I was on a lake up in your area on sunday and monday and did really well on largemouth from 2-3.5 lbs in a large 4-6' deep bay.

Also picked up 3 right at 20".

Yes, I was in Ottertail County. Were you on the lake we talked on last summer? I was on the big fish lake I told you about. Awesome opener, same lake on sunday night, same bay, one fish. Much better on the main lake that night. Maybe we will run in to each other this coming weekend. I plan on fishing Early saturday morning.

I was on that big fish lake on sunday morning to early afternoon. Hammered em in a small 4-6 foot bay with timber/and weeds. With the cloud cover they were really roaming/cruising.

Hit a couple other bays and the main lake on sunday but the action was kinda hit and miss.

Went back out again on monday late morning to early afternoon and hammered em again in the bay. This time they were a little tighter to the timber/cane. Bigger ones were still out roaming the weeds. Kinda crazy, my brother was with and he got every big fish on monday except for one throwing a fluke over the scattered coontail clumps. He didn't get nearly as many, but every single fish he got was over 3 lbs. Meanwhile i was crushing them pitching the cane and timber, but most of mine were from 2-3 lbs. Tried throwing some plastics/jigs in the same areas my brother was throwing his fluke and couldn't get anything.

Hit the other lake on monday morning and did Okay. Ended up with 20 or so smallies, but it wasn't the action i was expecting. Only one area had a large concentration of willing biters. Otherwise it was just a bite here and a bite there.

I hope to get out this weekend, but, i'll have to wait and see, might have some company up for the weekend. I'll definitely be out this week a bunch though. Probably not up in OT county though until possibly this weekend.

I take it you are off for the summer again? smile If we were on the same lake, it must be a morning bite in that bay, it stunk on Sunday night. Crazy when they get hot like that. We had several doubles that morning. Catch up with you somewhere along the line, show you the 1197 and maybe scan some of those deeper spots on the smallie lake.
