Id bet good money that any big retailer will not sell out at all. They should have more than enough copies on hand.

The days of selling out are long gone.

If I wouldn't have gotten the $20 credit by preordering on WalMart, I would have just picked it up in store like I did last year.

Even though I have one preordered, I may still run to WalMart Monday night and get it, then just return the one that I get Tuesday.

The only thing pre-order does is ensures a better price, bonus or deal like LM-2 said.

Quote:
I want to pre-buy this game to get in on the deals and with it being released in Nov. want to ensure we will be playing on or a few days after the release. With X-mas so close, I guess you never know about stock.

Obviously the Walmart $20 gift card is the best thing rollin. The other even better deal is the $29-$30 off at game stop you get if you turn in MW2 and pre-order BO. With out the pre-order they give you $20. You can do this days before the release. Normally the trade in of MW2 is $20, but they add in an extra discount if you pre-buy BO at the time. A guy could buy it via Walt-Mart, get the $20 gift card (you know it will be used) and then trade in MW2 at Game Stop for $20 I guess. You pretty much get BO for $20 then.

How many of you play the "old" version after you buy the new one? Any of you still regularly play the old COD's?

At this point I see now reason to keep MW2 if I can get $20.00 for it. I should check to see what they are selling for from private parties.

They also have an edition for $140 that comes with the RC car that has a digital camera and sound recorder built in that transmits to the radio controller. Not my taste of spending the money for this, but sound cool. The radio controlled car is a new kill streak you control in to blow up up your enemy remotely. Here are some videos of actual multi-player play time:

I think this will be my last day playing MW2. It is being packed up and traded in. My luck BO will bite and everyone will be going back to MW2. grin

The biggest name in military games gets its next installment on November 9 -- but how much do you really know about this hotly-anticipated, Cold War-era shooter? In a few minutes, you'll know plenty.

1. It might be a Call of Duty game, but it doesn’t have all that much in common with Modern Warfare 2.

Yup -- different era, different characters, but most importantly, an entirely different developer. Black Ops comes from Santa Monica-based Treyarch, the firm responsible for Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, and (looking further back) well-regarded ports of the early Tony Hawk games. It’s probably fair to say they’re not held in quite the same regard as Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare’s now-gutted developer, but nevertheless expectations are high for Black Ops.

2. The character animations use the same motion-capture techniques as Avatar

Normally, recording voice-overs and producing character animations are two separate processes. Not so with Black Ops. For maximum realism, Treyarch employed the services of LA-based Giant Studios -- the outfit responsible for Avatar’s motion-capture -- to record voice, body movement, and facial animation all in one take. Giant’s tech employs an array of over 100 cameras to spot even the most subtle of movements in its actors’ faces.

3. It has actors, you say?

Oh yes. Gary Oldman, Ed Harris, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Ice Cube all lend their voices to Black Ops characters. The soundtrack is equally star-studded, including period-appropriate tracks from the Rolling Stones and Creedence Clearwater Revival...and not-so-period-appropriate tracks from Eminem.

4. It’s already a best-seller

Modern Warfare 2 smashed sales records last year, earning over $550 million in just five days of sales and becoming the world’s most lucrative entertainment launch in history. But Black Ops, at last count, is well on its way to sell even better: recent comments from several top retailers at home and overseas indicate Black Ops preorders are outpacing even Modern Warfare 2. Can it one up the year’s other top sellers, like Red Dead Redemption and Halo: Reach? It’s certainly in with a shot.

5. The special editions are really, really special

Jeep's Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition Call of Duty has a history of cool, premium-priced special editions, and Black Ops is no exception. Check out the $149.99 Prestige Edition, which packs a real-life, fully functional reproduction of the game’s remote-controlled surveillance buggy. But if even that’s not swanky enough for you, consider picking up the special edition to end all special editions: a Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition, yours for just over thirty grand. The Black Ops Jeep is also said to be appearing in the game, although exactly how they’re going to give a 2010 vehicle a cameo in a Cold War-era shooter is beyond us. Maybe Eminem will be driving it.

I am sure it is going to be very cool. Not cool enough to go out and purchase new Jeep cool, but cool as in a new game. The only downside I see is the Cold War era setting. Just seems drab. I will love it when they come out with Vietnam style game. That IMO is going to be huge.

My brother in-law's buddy is supposed to get his hands on a copy of BO tonight. He brother is a manger at a Game Stop. Also heard if you go into target or Toys Are Us and find a gullible employee, ask if they have BO's in back because it is not on the shelf, have them escort you to the front to pay you can get it early. Walmart is an option, but I guess the registers do not allow the purchase and the details of why come up on the display screen.

Are there still any good promotions going for pre ordering the game? I looked last night, and didnt see much.

Target has a card you can reserve it for 1.00$ When you buy it you get a target gift card for 5$ So essentially you get the game for 4$ cheaper. I didn't want to pre order I just wanted to reserve a copy just in case.

Yeah right, good luck with that. smile Maybe a title like "Joe Six Shooter goes to the Circus".....just maybe you might get early, but it just doesn't happen anymore like it used to. Especially with a game like this. Employees have certainly been briefed.

From what I've read, this could be the highest grossing entertainment opening of all time (surpassing MW2). Bigger than any movie or music.

Yeah, I watched that vid yesterday. Good stuff!

I'm still trying to find out if Best Buy is offering $30 for MW2, and if so, I will be getting my game there tomorrow.......who know's maybe even 12:01. wink

Oh geez, you have to fill out a form, then mail in your game, then wait for an evaluation, and then wait for a gift card or check to be mailed to you.

No thanks, I'll go get my $12 for it at GameStop and not deal with the hassle of BB.

A robbery at a Baltimore-area GameStop has netted the perpetrators over one hundred copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

According to the Baltimore Sun, at least two men armed with handguns burst into the store at closing time Saturday night. They made off with four cases of Call of Duty: Black Ops games, as well as game systems and cash.

This was the second robbery at a Baltimore-area GameStop in less than three weeks, and it’s thought that the same robbers may have perpetrated both crimes. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who is offered an early copy of Black Ops to contact them.

I know there are people out there who really want to play the new Call of Duty, but this is just taking it way too far.

I'll give you $12 cash for it! Some BB stores in the metro will do the swap for you at the counter, not sure which ones though.

I was going to go that route, but it is tough for me to swallow a $30 credit when I dropped $150 on the prestige addition. That, and I'm thinking every hardcore player will switch over to Black Ops in the next few days, giving me an advantage over the less fortunate noobs still playing MW2 - maybe I can get my KD ratio back over 2.0?

Go to BB's HSOforum and it'll list the stores that will trade on the spot.

That's what I did.

Most will, more than won't anyways.
