0 BoxMN
We use the waterproof pop rivets, you can get at your boat dealer. We also slap some silicone on them as well, while we are at it. However, we also have just use silicone on the holes, no screws or rivets at all, and that held up for about 4 years, and probably would have gone longer but we slapped waterproof rivets in - we were just testing the silicone - it lasts a long time, and no leaks at all (total of about 12 holes, had early Bottomline side finders on at one time...). BoxMN, riveting and sealing would be a really good idea if you have holes all the way through the hull, but it sounds like he just has some screw holes not all the way through that need filling. So, silicone with or without screws should work.
0 Mike Stark
actually the holes are all the way through the transom.
0 leech~~
actually the holes are all the way through the transom. Mike that is a little detail that would have helped up front for everyone. If they are all the way through the hull I think that I would use sealer and put some stainless steel bolts back in or the rivets like BoxMN suggested. 0 marine_man
I'd put some sort of fastener in there to support the silicone instead of plugging as large diameter of a hole.Bottom line - poor sealing / improper sealing will lead to a wet transom, which eventually leads to a rotten transom.marine_man

0 Northlander
After you have it all sealed up MIke I would then put a plastic mounting board over that area or at least on the area you want to put the new ducer. It will save holes in the transom later on down the line. You can get them at better sporting good stores and marine dealers.
