Hey guys, morel newbie here. Will the cold weather predicted for this weekend kill all the mushrooms ending the season? I have not had time to get out yet, and I was planning on looking next week. I found some promising looking spots shed hunting this year. Thanks for any feedback!

Congrats, cut them in half the long way, soak for an hour or two in salt water, then I just saute(sp) in butter for about 10 mins or so then either eat or just freeze in baggies butter and all. Actually been finding more the last few days than ealier in the season.

Thanks for that!

I got em cut up and soaking now.

It was kind of frustrating this afternoon though. I found a whole bunch of them when I went back down there again. They just happen to be in a thick patch of poison ivy frown. I'm pretty pumped that I finally found some though. I honestly gave up on looking for them so that was a pretty nice surprise. smile

Went looking tonight after hearing some positive reports, but didn't find any...still had a nice walk in the woods though...finally heard my first turkey gobble of the year. Kinda late, but I haven't been in the woods this spring as much as I'd like to be with work and doing some traveling. Also found a deer skull.

A 3 block walk from the house. smile

I have heard a few times that there are a couple decent spots in bc besides where I was at to find them too. Back in the days of scouts I had a leader that was a fiend for morels and he always found them in the city here.

Scouted a new area today that I've been seeing in my sleep. I have thought about it 100 times, thinking there has to be 'shrooms in it. Checked one draw, notta, another, notta... The 3rd spot produced 8 so I was becoming more optimistic. When I got to the final spot I was planning on checking in the area I was rewarded w/ 4.4 lbs. of blacks. I left over 100 standing because my bag was overfilled. Some of them were up in the 6.5-7" range. Huge blacks. Best hunt of the season so far!

Ironman check the post above you,it seems the black morels do good up there. Was gonna make this last weekends search my last for the season, but that was before I scored around 15 lbs around three trees.Im pretty torn cause Ive been splitting my time between fishing for eyes and picking shrooms.I know the shrooms are much more a fleeting hobby and the eyes will be around a whole lot longer. This season has been fantastic with the weather weve had,its definatley lengthened the time these delicious beautys have been popping.Well maybe one more trip to the woods wouldnt be that bad after all grin.....Happy Hunting......

I found some today. First I found a few greys. Then I found a clump of yellow ones in a spot no larger than a football. I have never seen them grow that tight together but there they were nice perfect looking large yellows, just packed together. I wish I would have had a camera along.

I was out yesterday and the only ones I found were ones I had missed on the last picking. But, with the recent rains and the cool weather, it could look to the mushrooms like a second spring. We just might be looking at a second harvest. Any opinions on that from the old time mushroomers?

I have only been picking morels for approx 10 years so a pro or old timer I am not.

In those years I have yet to see a second crop but I will be out hunting for them as soon as we get another warm spell.

One never knows. It will be tough looking for them with the cover on the ground getting as hig as it is.
