Carp and other Rough fish pics

Decided to take another run at it today. Lots of lookers but managed to get a few. Caught four in about 3 hours, gold swedish pimple with waxies or a silver pimple with a dropper line down to a genz worm and waxie, though they preferred the actual baited pimple. These fish are a lot of fun, might have to make a trip over to the bay(lake michigan) where there are huge numbers. These are out of an inland lake in north-central WI. I know these pictures aren't great, but I am taking self-timed photos so bear with me.

I hear they are good if fried fresh caught

They are not good fried fresh, they are UNBELIEVABLE. Walleye/crappie guy my whole life, in addition to loving roughies, but I will tell you this...give me a flaky, super white, tender piece of whitefish over walleye any time. That's no joke. One extra row of bones to cut out, but they come out easy, and it's fine dining after that. It's everything you love about walleye except firmer and whiter flesh. Great stuff--had some two nights ago smile

Yeah, that's a pout. I was hoping to catch a bowfin (Dogfish) on a tipup at my cabin last weekend, we have a decent amount in that lake and they can get BIG! I've never seen one through the ice. I got my first bass and rockbass of the ice season though so I was happy.

That's interesting about bowfin.

In my experience, during cold water periods (early spring) they seem to bury themselves in matted down vegetation. I've seen it a few times while scouting around in a boat. I don't know if this is some form of hibernation, or just a coincidence.

Has anyone caught one in the late fall/winter/early spring??

I caught one in mid winter but it was at a street runoff discharge on the mississippi, so the water was a few degrees warmer.

Other than that fishing opener is the earliest I have caught them.
