Naan Pizza

Recommended Posts

I make homemade pizza a fair bit and really dislike making dough from scratch, so I usually buy premade "shells". RecentlyI found this flat bread called Naan and have been using it, and love it. It crisps up nicely but also remains a bit chewy.

Most of the time we have "white garlic" pizza. Heres how I make it...

Processed garlic is usually a no-no but I prefer it for some things and this is one. Take a clump of garlic and sprinkle on some salt then with the edge of your knife work it a bit to get a paste going.

Now add some olive oil to the mix...

Smear around a layer on the bread/dough...

Now for some goodies. I like provolone cheese and fresh grated fontina cheese. Fontina is alot like parmesian.

One I usually make with just the garlic, cheese, some basil, and a bit of fresh cracked pepper - "sometimes less is more".

In the summer I add some slices of just picked tomatoes.

The other I made up the same butt added some sliced olives and diced peppercinis..

Pop em into a 400 degree over right on the racks and keep and eye on them - about 10 minutes is it...

Enjoy!

p.s. When we want "red" pizza I never use sauce but bust out a jar of salsa instead, quick, easy, and good! cool

Lebanese shops will sell naan as well. My inlaws always have this incredible garlic spread that goes on naan, just like hummus and pita bread. Awesome stuff.

Thanks for the recipe idea. I never thought of using naan for a pizza crust. I like the olive oil/garlic paste idea as well. That looks like a good treatment on the crust for those of us garlic lovers.

Thanks for sharing. I will have to seek this out. We use the premade crusts sometimes, but only the ones that we really like. Ironically, about the only ones we like are sold at Wally Word of all places. And the olive oil and garlic is a great idea. Besides the great taste, the olive oil helps keep the crust from getting soggy by crisping it up some and providing a protective barrier between it and the sauce and toppings.
