Early Draft Thoughts...

Not much going on in this forum so why not start talking about the draft a little?

Lot's of reports/mock drafts have the Vikes taking a D-back or a defensive tackle in the 1st round. Areas of need, no doubt but also very predictable. Any thoughts on what the Vikes may do and why?

Personally, I hope they take Maurkice Pouncey out of Florida. He's a big center/guard and would be an upgrade over both Sullivan or Herrera.

Kyle Wilson CB/Kick returner (Boise State) would be a nice pick at 30 too.

Haven't looked much at depth at OL positions this year but I know there isn't much depth in the draft for secondary positions. A second round pick into the OL would be a good idea as well.

I actually would like to seem them grab a corner somewhere, whether its the 1st round pick or FA. There are question marks with when Griffin will be back and how healthy. Questions with whether Sapp will be back here period. Somewhere in this draft you have to draft a QB.

I don't know much about the guys going into the draft, but I agree that we are very thin in our secondary. Either thin at safety and CB if Winfield doesn't move over, or very thin at CB if he does.

7 round mock, which is hard to find. i disagree with a lot of stuff in there (Tebow to Oakland that soon? not likely)

They might have to look at MLB in the earlier rounds too. No telling if EJ will ever be the same player he was. Brinkley looked OK, but slow in pass coverage. Granted, most MLBs aren't great at pass coverage - but I'm not sure the team is sold on Brinkley being the long term answer there.

It looks as though there nobody wants the top players in the draft. Nobody wants to pay that much money to an unproven player.

yeah the "draft value chart" is antique at best. There's substantially more value at the end of the 1st round and early in the 2nd round.

I'd rather have a late 1st and an early 2nd over two top-10 picks

There is a lot of depth this year. DT,cb and ol are really strong this year. A trade down to net another pick or two in the second or third would a great move.

All the mock drafts are pretty much the same as far as the top 10 goes. After the combine things in the latter part of round one might get shook up a bit. Suh is going #1. He is easily the best player in the draft.

I hate the way they got the draft set up this year. I always liked the saturday draft. Now we're just gonna see more commercials. At least I won't have to take a day off to see the first three rounds.

I'm sure I'll check in again as this is my favorite part of the offseason.

That'd be a good pick, he's still a little raw around the edges but he's a great player. Good size and athleticism and doesn't hesitate to help in run support

Him or Wilson would be a good bet I think

Wilson will be a stud cover guy. His only problem is he tackles like deion sanders. Poor run defender. I've heard he isn't an ideal fit in the cover 2. Still, he could be a guy that shuts down his half of the field.
