SimpleMan
When fishing crankbaits do you guys tie your line directly to the crankbait or do you use a snap/snap swivel?

Cecil
90% of time I tie direct.
mainbutter
tie directly always I can change out a lure in under 30 seconds easy, maybe under 15?Snaps barely save me any time in changing a lure.
Larson15
I like using the norman speed clips. I am not the best crank fisherman and have mental breakdowns sometimes on the lake where I change cranks every five minutes!I haven't seen any disadvantages to using them. TonkaBass
I personally think it hinders the action on cranks
Wayne Ek
It all depends on the crank. For ripping rattle baits I always use a snap. If I'm tossing hard jerkbaits and the one I want to use has no O-ring then I will use a snap. I use a snap on wake baits. On all my shallow to medium running baits I change out the O-rings for oval or tear drop split rings, if they do not have any O-rings then I add oval or teardrop rings and tie direct. For my deep divers I use a snap as the stress on the line is so much greater and you are banging bottom if they are fished right. Top water baits I tie direct as a snap usually forces the line to sink just off the nose of the bait and tangle in the trebles.
BobOmaha
I've had instances where - I believe - that the line was "cut" when it caught in that small area of the "split" on the split ring. And as for action... a number of lure makers recommend using a "loop" knot. Why not then, just use a snap vs. a "loop"?Not saying it's best/better, but IMHO, I use a snap on crankbaits for those reasons. (Never had one fail yet.) bucketmouth64
I lost a few fish because of the snap came apart so I began to tie. Quick clip was mentioned and I will try these out this sesaon because I switch lures so often. Just remember to check your line for nicks if you choose to use a snap. jwhjr
I use a snap most of the time.
toomanyjigs
i use the snaps and they work great since i change jigs till i find whats working that day just use the heavier duty looking ones and havnt had any issues and have iced some really decent hawgs, just two weeks ago i was out and "my equipment" caught a huge northern fattest i have seen fat head with the big belly looked like an old mount in a bait shop somewhere but i couldnt get a good grasp on it she broke the line and went back down anyways the snap held ha ha so if you see a small demon glow with a red dot with a quick snap and some red cajun 6lb line hangin from a pike's mouth on the passenger side that was mine
MN Shutterbug
Duo lock snaps in size 2. I'm lazy and use them for everything.
TonkaBass
I have to agree with Wayne Ek about the oval split rings... They are far superior to the round ones...
Superduty
I usually remove the split rings and use a snap. I don't like to have two pivot points. Don't know what size snap I use. Not much bigger than the split ring though. I fear breaking a knot on the "gap" in the split ring.
mozy
Duo Locks for me. I mess up knots all the time it seems and I switch cranks way too often to retie. I've never noticed any negative effects on the action of the bait either. Seems it would be the same as using a Rapala knot.
PerchJerker
I use speed clips, quick and easy and they will NOT open up on you.
