It's like asking if I should bring my extra tackle box or jumper cables or spare vex battery. Why not? For the record, I've never, ever, used an extension and I've lived in and fished the park rapids and detroit lakes area for 10 years. It's been close, but never necessary.

i am sure there is always room under any vehicles seats.......or in the 5 gallon bucket that you carry everything else in.....or whatever you carry the auger in I am sure it will fit in that....or put it in your pocket......not enough room or it is too much weight for anyone is a lame excuse....if you can carry the auger I am sure you can carry the extension......sorry but this falls in line with should I spool line on my reel or will the fish just jump out of the hole!! Good Luck and hopefully you slay the fish this weekend........oh and welcome to FM!! LOL
Will fish really jump out of the hole laugh

you know, here's a newbie asking a legite question, and people once again start razzing him. yeah ok, so an extension doesn't take up so much room, but have you guys figured in the tools required, ok , maybe an allen wrench, but what if the auger has not been off the original shaft since it was bought, this can be quite a pita! trust me, i know! but to answer the ops ?, i wouldnt worry about an extension, save that for the bigger lakes like lake of the woods or leech or mille lacs perhaps. and for the smart azzes out there that have nothing better to do, this is why NEW questions have not been asked, trust me i know, i used to be a site administrator for another outdoor HSOforum! and to see other site staff giving just as much guff about a simple question is beyond me. who cares if the question has been asked a million times, the search function on here sucks! it gives you a bunch of unrelated posts!

sorry if you can't take a little guff on a question that when you really sit back and think about it it is really a silly question......Now if you word it differently it makes it not so silly.....example: I am coming up to Lake X and was wondering approximatly how thick the ice was? I will be bringing the extension but wanted to know if I should put it on at home or if there is little chance I would actually need it I will leave it off and add it if needed.....Thanks

This at least doesn't sound as if it is such a burden to add a 12-24" long 1"round 2lbs piece of metal pipe pipe to your load!! That is where these questions are silly not if it is needed but the reason of I am trying to cut down on the load as space is limited.....Come on it doesn't take up much space!!! and sorry if you truly feel these answers prevent you from asking further questions as the answers are in good nature and we aren't trying to prevent you from asking questions in the future..just some good ol fashioned ribbing!!!! LOL

It's too bad a guy can't ask a simple question without gruff but, with all these awesome fisherman on this site of coarse your going to get smart remarks. 10-4 on the "search function" maybe that is something productive the boys can work on... Back to the subject... Yes, do always bring the extension with you and good luck the rest of the winter!!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am not fortunate enough to have a truck but a small compact car and it gets pretty tight in there with all my other equipment. Also' date=' I suffered from Osgood-Schlatters Disease when I was a kid and my knees get weak sometimes carrying all my equipment. I try to leave extra stuff at home if I don't need it.quote']

Well I am going to take some guff on this reply... But MudPuppy77 has a legit request and some of you morons took it to be stupid, I did some research on his physical disabling background, and now there is a USA Olympic member who had the same thing. Sorry for the harsh words and you can diss me all you want, but if we are at all any kind of Sportsmen we should think about someones issues and help were we can instead of jumping in and ripping the guy who really wants to know if his thinking is right. Sorry if this is late, and MudPuppy I hope you did well, I can expect a note from the moderator but oh well, it's time some of us take a step back and give some respect to others seeking some honest advise......I am just as guilty , see some of my posts I have been trying to keep things light but this one rubbed me the wrong way. Sorry.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
