croixflats
I see Goodall looking at possibility of a ban of the 3 point stance on defense say this may minimize concussions. Will this play a big factor in slowing down some of theses quick orientated defenses.http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-superbowl-goodell&prov=ap&type=lgnsAlso take a look at what was said on labor negotiations. To me it sounds like a step in the right direction but with a battle.
JBMasterAngler
Looks like another step closer towards the NFL turning into the flag football league.
jeffreyd
I think it is going to be a reality sooner than later. Being a parent of a son who has had two concussions in two years playing football, it is concerning. I think there is more than the 3 point stance that causes these issues. He took both of his shots in practice, going against a stronger bigger kid that was simply a horse. My son was not afraid to go head to head against him and did get the tackle both times and both times got his bell rung hard. Both resulting in swelling and large bruise on his forehead. I am more of an advocate for safer helmets than changing the game. His helmet (supplied) was not much different than what I used in the 70's. Padding was similar. I am surprised money does not change the effect of this. Oh well we will see how it all plays out i guess.
goblueM
I think it'd be a RADICAL change. You'd be crippling defensive linemen, and the running game would be completely different. I'd expect a LOT more passing, and the mold of an NFL lineman (both offensive and defensive) would change a lot.Defensively, I would envision a lot more of the 1 or 2 down-lineman look, a la the Ravens and Pats of recent years. Lots of guys standing up and shifting around. Offensively, much more short passing, and zone running plays, or read playsI'd like it for the impact on the players health, not so much for the integrity of the game
Wildabeast
Silly going to a 2 point stance. They should consider getting rid of all hard padding and only have pads to protect against abrasion, so yes back to leather helmets without face masks, and no hard shelled shoulder pads. Do that and people won't use themselves as a weapon. Bring back football to what it was.
riverrat56
Eliminate the 3 Point stance and you end up with 2 stand up ends and a bunch of big LB's blitzing into the middle every single play. That will eliminate hard hits? These guys get to make there living playing a game, they take a risk every time they step on the feild. Either the NFL learns to accept that or they completly ruin the league with stupid rules like this.
james_walleye
Maybe they should just start putting the red jersey on the QB in gameplay to and just play 2 hand touch rules with him.
slipbobbin
Exactly.....Eighter hit the quarterback or dont. Take the judgement call out their hands.

I think it's the head leading hit and people using themselves as a weapon as mentioned that is the cause of this epidemic of concussions. Let's get back to tackling the ball carrier instead of db's launching themselves at the upper body parts of the ball carrier trying to jar the ball loose. Fine if you want to try punching the ball loose but the airborne db leading with their shoulder or helmet has caused way too many injuries; sometimes to their own teammate doing the same launch from the other side of the ball carrier and they collide. One can argue that football players know the risks and I have no argument there but there are ways that you can maintain the integrity of the game without unnecessary risk of injury. I've enjoyed watching this game for almost 40 years now and it was just as enjoyable back in the olden days when defenders tackled instead of launched. croixflats
I'm trying to understand how a 3 point stance correlates into concussions.I agree the league would be better served of eliminating these launching maneuvers.I think these moves have been glorified in movies such as Any Given Sunday and movies as such and now with the younger player it has moved into the culture of the NFL.I'm all for hard hits except for using the body as a missile projectile. I am surprised we have not seen as many neck injuries as concussions.
JBMasterAngler
As much as I hate just about every new rule regarding defense in the NFL, I'd actually be all for banning the "launching missile tackle". Make the players tackle again! I think that would actually improve the game's defense overall. How many times have you seen a defender launch himself, only for the guy with the ball to not go down and run for an extra 10 yards or more? Make them actually tackle and you cut down on alot of those "bonus" yards.

PierBridge
There hasn't been an increase in concussions at all probably a huge decline if anything. Concussion awareness, detection, concern and admittance yes. I don't see a snowballs chance in Ell of this rule change coming to fruition. You don't have to suffer a concussion to have brain damage; frequent helment to helmet contact over time could lead to brain damage. Supposedly using a 2pt stance would reduce this. mrklean
its sad what they are doing to football, i know they want to protect players and the QB more then anything, but when a hand bumps the QBs helmet and its 15 yards come on
