Transducer clicking?

Is this bad or not? I just picked up a MarCum VX-1 and got it all set up. When I turned it on the transducer started clicking reasonably loud, and when I hit the IR it lessens but never completely goes away. My Vex FL-8 has never done this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thats how the unit reads.. its sends out a sound click and then times how long it takes to get back to the unit.. When it stops clicking, its broke!

Your vex does this also put it up to your ear once.

My Fl18 does too.

It's perfectly normal. I think it's kind of cool that my VX-1 makes noise like that when it's out of the water. Try pointing it at different things and listen to how it's reflected.

My LX-5 does it too, as stated it's normal.

Yep, normal like everyone else said. Once in your hole you don't hear it.

Its pretty intersting to watch what the cat does when I bring it inside and turn it on. It bounces off all of the walls and he runs all over trying to figure out what the noise is.

"Clicking" is normal, it is the sonar firing the sonar pulse.

The IR function shifts the pulse pulse frequency slightly, and that is also normal, as will be a change in pulse rate when you switch the depth range settings...deeper will be a slower pulse rate, shallower is faster.

Now...if you start hearing "Voices" coming from your MarCum transducer..well..that's not so good.

I put my thumb on my showdown transducer when it was wet and actually hurt my thumb, never had that happen with other flashers.
