My point is.. please dont judge someone by their boat.. Just because they have a nice boat, does not mean they are a good angler, a boat does not make the angler.. But just because they have a nice boat does not mean they are rich, or a jerk, or a good fisherman.. It just means, that they made that a priority in their life.

Excellent statement. It also dosen't mean the owner has a rich daddy either.

I wasn't trying to cut down someone with a "show" boat. My point is, A guy who has the fast boat can get to the spot first catch 2 fish (where a better fisherman can get 4) blow out the spot and leave nothing for the better fisherman. It has nothing to do with skill or talent. Just deep pockets.

I don't think all tournament should be 150hp or under but if you want me and a growing number of fisherman to take the sport seriously more steps will have to be taken to put the focus on the fisherman’s fishing talent. Level the playing field.

It has nothing to do with deep pockets, it has to do with a commitment. I remember when Jim Moynagh was starting out he had a stratos with a 150-175 which then was a big motor. He towed it with an old station wagon. He didn't have deep pockets by any means, he just commited to having that boat and making sacrifices and felt it was a tool that helped him to be a better fisherman.

There are plenty of guys with 18' boats and 150hp that win tournaments throughout the state and country. If you think having a smaller boat makes it unfair, you are contradicting yourself in also saying a bigger boat makes it unfair. Its about the talent level. You need to be able to fish behind other people or find spots that others do not. It's no different if you have a 150hp or if you are boat #5 and the other guy on that spot is boat #1.

LOL at Cecil

I don't buy into the fact to someone having an advantage because they have a faster boat. Most tournament waters are fairly large and have an infinite # of spots, If you know your fish are going to get hit before you get there its up to you to find other fish. Does DD have an advantage over someone like me who has a small tin jon boat? If we are fishing deep in wind then yes, if we are fishing shallow then no I have an advantage (my boat floats in 6" of water and is easy to push pole into some very tight quarters) I guess what I am trying to get at is someones always going to have an advantage over you, whether its a faster boat, smaller boat, knowledge of the lake, blasting off 1st. If thats going to keep you from fishing tourneys then its probably not for you wanyway. I personally like it when I am at a perceived disadvantage, there is always someway to turn it in your favor.

If I were to win the lottery tomorrow I wouldn't buy anything bigger than 19' and probably would stick closer to 18' and a 150hp limit you have the best of both worlds imho as still being able to fish in the rough stuff and having the manueverability to fish shallow if needed.

It is just something I read somewhere. If I see it again I'll post it.

I'm just curious, how many local tournaments whould you have to win to pay for a top of the line Bass fishing boat. As a bussness move, how long would it take to pay it off. Lets say there are 20 people on the tour all with the same fishing ability. I don't want to hear, I could enter and win 20 tournaments and get it payed for this summer. If you do say that I just have to say Hi Kevin.

You would never get it paid off.. Never.. But you dont buy a bass boat to fish tournaments. You buy a boat for yourself. I fish every day in the summer.. well maybe not every day, but 6 days a week.. I only fish 10 or so tournaments. In no way do I go into it in hopes to pay off my boat.. I am plain happy to pay for the gas.. LOL

I fished 15 tournaments last season.. and I bet once.. and Only once was I heading to the same spot as someone else and I was able to pass them.

Like Cecil said, maybe you should go back to that first float tube if you're gonna lilydip the thing. laugh
