BRULEDRIFTER
Very sad. 5 straight NFC championships lost in a row. What was the 5th one? Saints, NYG, Atlanta, Wash and ?????Brutal game, I'm sick just thinking about it. I just wish we would have run it and tried a long fieldgoal....It's going to be a long time before we're back to this point.
Whoaru99
...they just got beat buy a better team... You must have been watching a different game than I was. But, at the end of 4 quarters, it's an all or nothing deal.

Isn't that the play that started the football phrase "Hail Mary"?
BRULEDRIFTER
That was a Divisional Playoff Game, not the Championship game. Dallas beat the Lambs to go to the Bowl that year.Edit: I found it... it was against Dallas in '78!
zepman
No excuses here...statistically we dominated the Saints in their house...with one exception...turnovers.
buzbunni
Just think, we can get more fishing time in now! Amen to that. I think I'll hit the ice tomorrow to decompress.

They did what they were supposed to as a football team and the offense answered touchdown for touchdown and Drew was hardly touched so how do you figure they were better.not to mention sloppy ball control. Its as simple as the team with the most points at the end of the game win Oh and I didnt lose any sleep over the game last night
MNice
Easy explanation: We're cursed!! We are the Chicago Cubs of the NFL.

And, they didn't cause the interception late in the 4th. But, as I implied before, and you said now, it doesn't matter any more. It's done and over, time to move on. I didn't lose any sleep over it either, but it still sucked to watch the Vikes blow a golden opportunity.
zamboni
A few things:APs fumbling the hand off exchange at the 10 yard lineFavre throwing the interception, but no roughing the passer call, that was clearly a "Tom Brady" hit and should have been calledPoor special teams on that 60 yard kick return that turned into an easy 6In OT, Pierre Thomas NEVER got that ball past the first down mark, and they showed it 50 times, and it never even was closeIn OT, the catch that was bobbled and seemed to touch the groundGoing into OT- Hutchinson calling "heads" you ALWAYS call "tails"!! greebs
that's the reality of a "tournament" type playoff system where you only get one loss and you're out. no other way to do it in football, but the best team doesn't always win all the games. a few bad breaks or an injury can make or break a season and has for many teams for many years. Reality is we really didn't see the best of the vikings nor the saints yesterday so don't really know who the better team is. (and if you say that's bogus, the vikes are the better team without a doubt because saints were lucky yesterday, then guess you'd also have to then say that the panthers and cardinals are better than the vikes.) It was a dramatic game but for the most part a pretty poorly played game by both teams.I think the vikes absolutely have to figure out a way to be a better team away from home. At home all the D really has to do is use the noise factor to their advantage, pin their ears back and attack. That doesn't always work all the time on the road when noise isn't a factor and the other team has many more opportunities to audible. Those losses in Az, Carolina, and Chicago where the D couldn't handle those offenses played as much a part in yesterday's loss as anything.I don't know how that gets fixed but if it doesn't I'm afraid that unless they host every playoff game and the superbowl some season, that is their only chance. Badger
It's the Vikings that have ripped out the hearts of their fans over the years: bit by bit, piece by piece. At times, that bad vibe that always emanates from the Vikings in the playoffs seemed tangible on Sunday. In the end, he (Favre) didn't let the Vikings down. It was the other way around. As always, some fans will say, "Wait 'til next year!" But the suspicion remains that this season was supposed to be "next year."Tom Powers - Pioneer Press
bucketmouth64
The last time Favre got pummeled Chilly didn't make the adjustment to give him more protection. He hasn't learned. Chilly says he gets concerned with all the hits he takes in a game, but this game he didn't care. No adjustments made and to me that's a coaches fault. Offensive line had trouble all game letting people thru and tagged Favre, what was our offensive line coach doing? Maybe we need a new one.
