Humminbird Ice Flashers?

Shack

Recommended Posts

I fished the ice fishing tourny on Forest lake yesterday. Thousands of flashers around and I never once had to adjust the signal.

I marked plenty of fish and could without a doubt see fish on my bait in 13fow with other fish around.

I have no idea why others are having issues as mine seems to work just fine.

i to havn't seen many bird flashers out there yet.....it doesn't seem to interfer when its next to a vex unit if thats what you were surrounded by but with the side by side birds......always.....im not recommending people not buy them by any means, those are just the two issues ive had with them.

I get 0 interference from The Vexilar's or the Marcums with my Bird. Although, I do pick up other Birds in the area. I can adjust them out, most of the way. But at times, I cant adjust out a fast counter clockwise blip, that will appear every 10 seconds or so. Although, I never thought of trying a different beam to do it.

Straight up is bird the way to go? Fish mostly pannies& eyes. Every post I read about flashers brings up new questions & new problems, very confusing, if I had the money I would probably own one of each. Never owned a flasher looking forward to fishing with one & looking for a unbiased answer from a veteran flasher user.

I would just buy one. They all do a great job, they just have a couple different features. Look at the features they offer, and pick the one that you like the most. The one I think is best, may not have the same features you like the best. But any flasher is a world of difference then no flasher.

If, I was to go buy one right now, it would be between the Ice-55, and the Lx-5

I got a 45 and love it with a few exceptions. I've had a few issues with the automatic zoom depth mode. At times in shallower water it will read .8 ft but when I switch it to the the 20 ft mode it reads the correct depth. Also the reading isn't quite as sharp as the vexillar or Marcum. The seperation just isn't there. I also get interference off of every unit I've fished next to and they were advertised as no interfrerence units. I can still catch fish just annoying seeing intereference flashes all day.

That being said they are probably the best tool if you are a crappie fisherman or anyone who chases suspended fish. I mainly hunt crappies and the targeted zoom is perfect. The buttons are nice and display is sharp. I also like the hard cover more than the other units covers. All in all if I had the money I would go with an FL-20 otherwise the 45 is the next best option for the buck.

I have a ice-45 and an Lx-3. Both are great, and I would not get rid of either one of them. The marcum seems just a little bit quicker on marking fish, and I have used them side by side a ton this year to test that. That being said the 45 is easier to read for my wife and 5 year old, and does a fine job putting fish on my hook. Anyway you go with it you will be happy I am sure.

What other brand flashers were you sitting next to that you got interference from?

I've fished my 45 next to an FL-8, an LX-5, and an Ice-55. The only brand I've gotten ANY interference from is another Humminbird.

LX 5, LX 3, FL20, FL18, lowrance (not sure model their ice version) all gave me interference. Never fished by another bird. If you really don't get interference and you're not just piping up your product (or the sponsered product) let me know because I might consider sending mine in on Warranty.

I am in no way falsely talking up Humminbird. I had ZERO interference next to an LX-5 and FL-8, but like I mentioned, did have interference next to another Humminbird.

I would contact customer service.

You shouldnt have any interference with your bird while fishing next to non bird flashers. They are ran at a complete different HZ

I have numerous times this winter used a Ice 55 for my jigging line and my LX5 for my deadstick.

Not much for interfernce at all. They sit 3ft apart.

I ran my old FL8 SLT in a hole three feet from my ICE55. I was getting a single line going around the Bird. I punched the IR on the vex once and the interference on the Bird went away. I saw no interference on the Vex from the Bird. By the time the night was over, the score was Bird: 5 Crappie and Vex: 5 Crappie. I did get a little bug eyed trying to watch both of them.

I used the ICE55 for the entire ice season.

Last trip out was the Burntside Bash in Ely for lake trout.

It has been said the larger flat display is nice and I agree.

The Auto Depth is not a necessity but very nice to have.

That is especially true when hole hopping on steep breaks.

The fact that you won't give or get interference with MarCum or Vex flashers is almost a necessity when fishing in deep water and with hard bottom as the signals bounces and travels a very long way.

A combination of Noise Reduction and selecting a narrow cone angle works well with other Birds around. IMO your more apt to be fishing clutter free with the ICE55 and on this trip I didn't have to touch the Noise Reduction.

H-Bird's ICE55 definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

I really like mine.I have the ice 55. The large flat screen is awesome. The only negative seems to be the weight. I hole hop a lot and it gets to feeling pretty heavy. My old Vex seemed a lot lighter. I have not weighed them on a scale. Could be my ageing body getting heavy.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
