I coulda got you a bullhead to go with those cats. wink

Actually I eat farm raised catfish but that is about it.

Unless I am down south... then I catch my dinner.

The tulies you can throw my way... those are awesome smoked.

We used to smoke Mooneyes too when we were growing up catching suckers out of the river... whenever we were lucky enough to catch one that is.

the last time i was out would have been last sunday. Took my buddy who won the ice saw out again and did pretty well. I speared the first (34") and let him sit in the hot seat. He missed his first but then came back and speared his 3. Had 3 northerns smash the decoy a couple times that was fun to watch. Going to try and get out this weekend also.

I haven't been out since Saturday and I'm feeling kinda deprived...I'm going trout fishing tomorrow and I'm working this weekend, but hopefully Monday I can get some spearing done before I go to work.

got out for the first time this year only my second time spearing, took one of my buddys who's never been out before. I stuck the first one, a 26incher, then the second one came in and my buddy threw at it three different times before he gave up and gave me the spear to finish the fish, was another 26incher, can't believe that northern came back three times and never left the hole. I'm absolutely hooked

Actually I was on Cenaiko. I think I'm going to set up in the bay right in front of the access the next time I spear it. Hopefully I'll finally see a pike in that lake and worst case I might be able to sight fish the trout (although I've never heard of anybody catching through the ice there).

We tip up and jig fished on Saturday. No flags in 4 hours in a lake chocked full of pike. One hit on a bucktail with a sucker minnow. Only 2 lookers on the vex, and they very well could have been another species. I think the slump is here, at least in my area.

Went out today without the spear on Pelican by Albertville with tip-ups and friends (my first time there). Holy cow! I've never seen so many spearhouses in my life! I've also never seen so many ice blocks left up on the ice either. Must cut down on the snowmobiling. Only caught two snakes but the water looks clear and the weeds are green.

I'll be going out with the spear tomorrow in the rain at a different lake that is closer to home...

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
